The Hobbit Hole XIII - Let them pass! Let them pass!
See our freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net home page! ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Let them pass! Let them pass!
(Note to dwarves, this is only meant figuratively)

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Our house was built 16 yrs. ago, but the windows were not very good quality. That's why we're going ahead and replacing the existing ones so they'll be better quality and will match the ones in the addition.

Good thing I added the email link to the Hobbit Hole pages... just got this email.

My name is Charles [last name removed] and I am stationed in Iraq with the US Army. I have been here over six months and happened upon a fellow soldier that proudly showed his treasured knife that he received. I too would be honored to own such a knife but more important would like to reward some of the troops here with them. They have worked hard and deserve more than I can ever repay. Anything that you can provide would be greatly appreciated. If this is too much to ask, I do understand. Over half of these fine soldiers have served our country through 2 wars, two dating back to Vietnam.

Thanks again for honoring the soldiers that serve. We greatly appreciate the support.

CHARLES

I committed a pre-emptive cutback on my petunias.... they have been so gorgeous, but have been getting really leggy and needed cut back so they can start over. When I have waited before till they got ugly to cut them back, they've just petered out and not had much to offere later. Hoping they'll be better off this way. Do you guys do this to get a second boost out of annuals in late summer?

Cool, word is spreading. When I handed mine off the other day, I was speaking to the Marine's dad. I've know this guy for 10 years professionally, but didn't know his son was serving. First thing dad saw was the URL on the blade. This guy and his wife are active in a Marine parents group. We might get some mileage out of this.

WOW, ya'll have some flowers there. It's so bloody hot here, that most of our flowers get pretty bedragled, if they don't outright die.

I've never grown petunias because the deer will just eat 'em.

Well, I felt a little conflicted cutting all that off, that's why I took a pic first! I just thought they'd soon be spent and straggly if I didn't. Now, they should come back all over again.

Is this the 12-CD super-deluxe set? What's underneath Minas Tirith?

No, this is just the ROTK Extended Edition Gift Set, like they have done with the previous movies. FOTR came with the Argonath bookends, and TTT had a Gollum figurine.

From what I can tell from the pictures, underneath is just an opening for storing nick-nacks and such.

Heh - actually I'm pretty sure LSA and I could build a house that we would be happy to live in but 'seriesly' doubt we could get it finished in time for our 'golden years'. :-)

What's this about stuff under Minas Tirith? I didn't know there was supposed to be scenes under Minas Tirith in the extended version.

My name is Charles [last name removed] and I am stationed in Iraq with the US Army. I have been here over six months and happened upon a fellow soldier that proudly showed his treasured knife that he received.

Well, this is the first recorded instance of one of our knife recipients showing off his knife, resulting in someone else contacting us. I'll send the Major a dozen knives, leaving him one extra to give out as he pleases.

What's becoming mind-blowing is that the troops consider these things as awards. Hell, we just got the best pocket knife for the money, and spent a bit to have our name put on it. We send them out to anyone we can.

I hope the rest of the folks here share the same humble feeling I do that these mundane objects are looked upon as something far more than we ever intended.

We may be approaching a "breakout" situation with knife numbers. I got 20 plain-edge 5700s in this week, and ordered 20 serrated 5710s. It looks like I'll need at least another 20 5700s to keep my inventory at safe levels. When the latest batch of knives arrive, our grand total will be 261. It looks like we'll blow past 300 shortly.

Now I have to get the latest batch ready. It looks like they won't be hanging around on the shelf for long.

Hullo, I am back from ~town~ and did not get beat up.

Luke is now watching Cat in the Hat and I need to go help Jr. assemble the rest of his furniture.

Hair - the petunias I planted didn't do nearly as well as yours. I think not enough sun. Will likely not try them again next year.

At least until I get some more trees down. Which I need to do vey soon. Lots of dead branches in the back this morning. Some akin to the size what trashed the fort last year. If'n they try it again, I'll be out whittlin' them down with muh Hobbit Hole knife...

I took the youngest bother to the mall. Only thing I dislike about that is all the superior looks I get from people who obviously think he's my kid. I try not to let it bug me...

We made an appointment to get our last year's Christmas picture done tomorrow. Then I got more boxes, so I have to go pack more. Still need a table and chairs, but I'll have to get them out there, I guess.
