The Hobbit Hole XIII - Let them pass! Let them pass!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Let them pass! Let them pass!
(Note to dwarves, this is only meant figuratively)

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Tomorrow the high is supposed to be 68.

I'm not exactly displeased. ;-)

Oh, good. You deserve some cooler weather.

What are the weekend plans?

Gigs. Two of them.

But I don't have anything going on until late afternoon tomorrow. So...I COULD go somewhere. Not sure where, though.

I'm almost thinking of going to that Super Wal-Mart...but that's a pretty long drive.

Is that bittygirl's room

Yes it is. We've put an aquarium in there recently, the light makes a really cool night light in there.

Do they have a Borders nearby to make the trip worthwhile?

Unfortunately, no. There is a town with a Borders that's about the same distance away (where I've met Suzi in the past), but THEY don't have a Super Walmart or the like.

Can't win, I tell ya.

That's just not fair. Though I suppose if there were all those things around, it wouldn't be the small town you love.

Did you end up reading last night, or watching another episode?

Exactly. I may complain...but it's a trade-off I'm OK with. And honestly...it REALLY makes you appreciate the big places when you DO visit, though it's also very nice to go from those places back to this nice, quiet little place. I wouldn't want to be in a bigger place constantly.

But I also wouldn't mind if Littleton, NH (where our "little" Wal-Mart is) got a Borders or something similar...

Did you end up reading last night, or watching another episode?

I watched episode four before I went to bed. Are there other people waiting to get around to watching these, or can we discuss them openly?

We can discuss, ksen probably won't be around today and should have seen that far anyway, and Fedora, if he reads this, should have time to forget about it before he gets to see any.

Hmm... you should start a petition to get a Borders...

We will NOT be getting one nearby in Vermont, I can tell ya that right now. But Littleton is booming. In the last few years, they've gotten Wal-Mart, Staples and Shaw's, and now Home Depot is coming. I think it's about time they got a book store, too...though I know that one will be a bit trickier as it WILL put the one bookstore in town out of business. The other stores weren't really competitors...

But IMO that bookstore deserves to be put out of business. They carry mostly garbage (lotta New Age and liberal crap), and they charge literally 18-20 bucks for a CD. I buy things that are on clearance once in awhile, but that's it. I'm all for supporting the local economy, even if it means a SLIGHTLY higher price...but only if it's a place worth supporting.

I thought liberal-types like big book stores.

Personally I don't think I could live farther than a half-hour drive from a big bookstore. I did mention that my apartment is walking distance to the B&N, didn't I?

Well...I'm cheap. I rarely buy new books, and I tend to buy a lot by authors I already know, so half.com and used bookstores work well for me.

And working where I do...the library is vey convenient. With interlibrary loan, I can pretty much get whatever I want.

I still wouldn't mind a big book store nearby, though.

Libraries are good. I haven't had access to one for a while.

Kewl post number...

I imagine in a big college town like Ft. Collins, you'll have plenty of good libraries.

Yup... and there's a store that sells anime/manga and things like that, too. I might be able to find some nice young geeks to hang with!

Yeah, but it's gonna rain! Not like we don't need it though, our front yard crackles when I walk across it!

I read a Chesterton book last year "The Man Who Knew Too Much". It was very interesting, but I haven't read any more of his writing. I'll check the library to see what they have.
