The Hobbit Hole XIII - Let them pass! Let them pass!
See our freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net home page! ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Let them pass! Let them pass!
(Note to dwarves, this is only meant figuratively)

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

well, everbody, as much as I would like to stay up and chat, my eyes are tellin me otherwise. I am gonna do a quick read to *try* to catch up on my Master and Commander, and hit the sack.

Ya know, I started reading Master and Commander when I was pregnant. I don't know that I have been able to so much as read a whole page since my bittygirl was born.

~yawn!~
Prolly won't get very far tonight either :-)

Is Claussen the one with the stork who talks like Groucho Marx?--or am I thinking of Vlasic? :)

Are the weapons in that movie period-authentic?

It depends on the timeline in the Indy universe. The P38 used in "Last Crusade" didn't start reaching the troops until 1939. In the same movie, the bad guys are using MP-40s, which only started to appear in 1941. However, the weapon also appeared in "Raiders", which took place in 1935/36, if I remember correctly.

Just after that last reply, we took a VEY major hit in THE core router of the entire hospital system. After changing our phone greeting to "don't call us, we know the whole system is hosed", I spent the next five hours paging people, relaying messages, and rousting techs out of bed.

If it happened at 11AM instead of 11PM, it would have been far worse. Even so, I'm reminded of Cannoneer No.4's tagline, I've lost turret power; I have my nods and my .50. Hooah. I will stay until relieved. White 2 out.

You know I've heard a lot about Chesterton from friends who like him but haven't really read him. What's a good thing by him to read?

I actually haven't read all THAT much Chesterton. My Dad and my brother are the big fans in the family. I enjoyed his Father Brown mysteries and I've read some of his essays (usually ones Dad gave me in photocopy format...), but a lot of his books are a bit more intellectual than I'd usually bother with. One of these days I'll finish Manalive, and I want to read Orthodoxy...but I'm not really an expert.

There's no such thing, in my book! Just about, in any case...

Heh, I even like pickled garlic - straight.

Good morning! Happy Friday!

Already over seventy today. Inside...feels like ninety.

I really need to make friends with someone who has air conditioning...or else spend the whole weekend driving around in Van-sama.
