Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Tree and flower and leaf and grass

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

never tried to feed pills to a dog before, so wish me luck.

Use cheese. Wrap the pill entirely in cheese and stuff on the back of her tongue. Works every time.

Checkin' back in here. How's everyone's 4th going? Here the weather has been really overcast all day and they cancelled the fireworks 'til tomorrow. Is it like that by others?

I'm up.... And I think I hear the Bee Gees.

Still an hour till sunset here.... Gidget is on her little pills.... Not quite out yet, just laying there saying "rouwph". I think ecurbh just opened her mouth and stuck the pills back there... nothin' too fancy. Logan was the hard one. He'd hack it back up from the back of his throat.

What sort of adventures did you have? We need to compare notes!

Fireworks were lovely. Traffic was not. I'm almost ready for bed...

I'm here. We watched 101 Dalmations (the live action one). Didn't really hold Luke's attention. Specially since we started it after his bedtime. It's storming pretty heavily here now. Jr. and I may watch Independence Day...although there's just weird dynamics going on in this house right now...

sigh...

"Fireworks were lovely. Traffic was not."

You still got bridges out from the flooding? It's pretty wet here.

So what were the mountains like? Mountains, Gandalf :)

How was that one compared to the cartoon? I was always afraid to watch it 'cause I was a fan of the original.

It's really a pretty good adaptation as cartoon to live action goes. Glenn Close is a hoot as Cruella De Vil. But unlike the cartoon and movies like Homeward Bound the animals don't "talk."

No, no bridges went out. I just chickened out of driving earlier through standing water on the highway. It's not an easy road at the best of times.

Mountains were awesome - in the old sense. I am looking forward to moving out there soon.

I just got back. Had a lovely day. :-)

Went for the day with PQ's mom and dad. We ended up at another relative's house with a pool. Swam most of the afternoon. Had barbeque etc. Now, I'm really tired....

I had the coolest drive back to Cheryl and Lynn's house. It's about 30 miles and most of it is high prairie ranch land so you can see for miles. Since we've had so very very much rain this month this is an unusual year in that we don't have fire warnings out for fireworks. The last half of the drive was a spectacular fireworks show! Almost every farm and ranch was shooting off fireworks on both sides of the road. I could also see the fireworks shows from 3 towns from that road! It was incredible!!! All the while one of the radio stations was playing nothing but patriotic music. I couldn't have planned that show any better! :-)

Maybe I just need some Gidget-type tranquilizers for everyone in the house...

Hmm. Maybe I'll check it out then.

Another movie I liked like that as a kid was "The Rescuers", with Bob Newhart as the voice of the mouse :)

Gotcha on the bridges--I misread your earlier post. BTW for some reason when I read what you just typed it makes me think of the scene with the Black Riders chasing the hobbits to Buckleberry Ferry :)

Awesome in the old sense--you rarely hear "awesome" in its proper sense anymore eh? :) It does seem applicable here. I've never seen real mountains. The closest I've come was climbing some bluffs here that went up maybe a few hundred to a thousand feet. The Rockies would be something else entirely. I've seen pictures of them looming over mountain lakes--looks beautiful.

Had an interesting experience with the bluffs I mention, BTW. I was maybe 9 and my Dad, my uncle, and my brothers and I were hiking up a road that wound around the mountain. A car passed us, and a minute later it came rolling down from the level of the road above us, to land on our level perched precariously on the edge. Thankfully the drivers were uninjured and my Dad and uncle managed to help them climb out--just before their car slipped and rolled down to the next level with a great crash. Pretty unnerving!
