Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Tree and flower and leaf and grass

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Yes...that would be great fun. It's a very nice track and facility. Today was sunny and mild, which made it fun to sit right down at the track level. Food is OK for stadium-type food (at least down at the track level, we didn't go upstairs to the grandstand). The races are FUN and only $4 to get in. The season goes for another six weeks at least.

Good night everyone.... If I don't go hit the couch, I'm gonna end up dozing here, posting pages and pages of whichever character my nose lands on.

Yes, we'll go on the weekend most likely. Races start in the evenings on Friday and Saturday -- during the day on Sundays.

All I know is, I can go shoot up a couple boxes of shells on clay pigeons, and still move my arm afterwards!

If you want 28ga/.410 performance out a 12ga, these shells are the way to go. But they're a bit pricey at 50 cents a round. But for specialized use, like small varmints at close range, they DO have a purpose.

Speaking of recoil, I remember the time our battery took along the oddball weapons (anything not an M-16) to the range. For the Winchester 1200 trench gun, they had targets on wooden sticks, about 10 yards away. The lieutenant says, "Okay, Spec. 300, show everybody how it's done."

I knew 00 buckshot was a heavy load, and a heavy kicker. So I got a good stock position, leaned forward a bit, and put one shot into each target as fast as I could. I think three of the sticks were shattered, and the other two targets had lots of big holes in them.

After setting up new targets, they asked for volunteers. Finally, PFC Jones, the smallest guy in the outfit, swaggers up to the firing line. "Ain't nuthin' to it. This is how we take care of business in the hoood." His first-and-only shot almost had the shotgun flying out of his hands. His only comment was, "that mutha KICKS".

I was sore later, but I didn't let on. After all, I had a rep to maintain.

I love that Swiss Army memory card! I got an e-mail from Thinkgeek.com last week and they mentioned it.

Sad isnt it to see someone that age losing his mind already. I wont even talk about the hair issue.

Now don't be ugly; he can't help it, he's old. ;o)

And I ain't far behind!

Good morning! Probably taking a half day today. Jim and Bill are both off...we'd like to do SOME fun stuff this week. I'm too broke to do a trip, as it turns out...but there's always hiking and such like.

Corin...really sorry to hear about Luke's teacher. That's rough. Wonder what could have caused that?

Turning 59 is much better than the alternative.

There you go!

The contracted salmonella from a restaurant in Paris.

Damn French.

Worst news we got tonite.

Oh how dreadful...what a blow! Things like this can really shock a church community...I know when that man in our church died suddenly we were all stunned. It's just so unexpected.

Is Luke ok? Does he know?

*yawn* g'mornin' folks...

Luke was up before 7:00 this morning. He usually sleeps until about 9:00, but he's pretty muched reached his limit of Mommy being gone. If the rain holds off, I've got Jr. set up to do things with him outside. That will help distract him.

Re: his teacher. I don't really know any more details. S-i-l said they thought maybe a massive stroke, but I guess we'll hear more as the days go on. Luke doesn't know. And I'm not sure he'll catch on to anything other than the fact that he has a different teacher on Wednesday. They trade off about every three months, so it may not be that obvious.

My flight was an hour late yesterday...but I got a free Merlot out of it.

Watched ROTK with my sister yesterday...it was the first time she's seen it all the way through. She thought the dead guys shoulda been blue. :)
