Not... particularly. But also as I said, we don't have a lot of variety. Catholic, several different orthodox, and 42 white Protestant churches. I'm not sure I've even heard of Church of God in Christ before.
Lol, the preacher last night was very energetic and I think he tried to get an "amen" near the end. It, um, didn't work. I guess if I had to give adjectives to the style of worship I'm used to, it would be 'reverent', 'liturgical', and 'quiet'.
Suzi's right, you probably would blow my mind, but I'm game to try it. Do people wear hats at your church?
Is the Pope Catholic?
WE don't wear hats or veils at Mass anymore, more's the pity, but I think the Church of God in Christ women still dress to the nines and wear hats and all. Am I right, Wn and Rose?
Church of God in Christ, Church of God, Pentecostal, they're all saints. When my mamma was a child --- the early 1920s --- the folks who went to the Holiness Church were called "saints," and they referred to their church as "Sanctified." The Sanctified ladies were easy to spot; they wore white all year 'round, and ankle-length skirts. they weren't allowed to wear jewelry other than their wedding rings and a watch. They called one another "Brother" and "Sister."
Last night, I was describing Greater Lincoln Park Church, in San Antonio. I attended that church many years ago. Since then, the preacher I described, Elder David Ellis, left one son in charge of the San Antonio Church and founded the Greater Grace Temple in Detroit, MI. David Ellis died some time ago, and left another son, Charles III, in charge of the Detroit church.
If you'd like a taste of the kind of church I grew up in, click here and select a video. (I recommend "Our Finisher" for a good look at an old-fashioned church choir). This is Greater Grace Temple City Of David (a new Pentecostal flavor) in Detroit. Warning; the "Our Finisher" "clip" is nearly 30minutes long, and others are longer. Once you get "Our Finisher" downloaded, you'll see the ladies in hats.
He's so-so as a preacher ... but I do believe I was there at his very first sermon, when he was six? Seven? I'm watching the "Our All-Sufficient Father" video under "Archived Videos," and he sounds more like his daddy --- and rather conservative.
Now let's see what he does with that pretty navy blue handkerchief ...
Anyway ... have at it!
