Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...That none have seen but we alone.

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Make sure you have high resistance to suggestion though.

My resistance is usually pretty high, but Jen seems to be pretty high-level and I'm afraid she might shake off a Holding spell. I think to be safe I'm going to have to cast Anti-Magic Shell. And if that doesn't work, time to pull out Bigby's Hand. . .

True.
Be sure to have Mordenkeinan's (Mordenkenard to some for some reason or other) faithful watchdog available.
Never know when you might need something to watch for summoned creatures.

I dunno.... just visiting sounds good to me, and leave my feet to be feet. They run barefoot outside and other hard tasks, they are not to be photographed, but to be walked on....

Getting a pap smear is good body maintenance too, but I don't do it in front of friends! ;~D

ROFLMBO .... or we can use my personal philosophy with that last one! Let's just don't do it... and say we did!

I had a GYN once that had posters on the ceiling with cute phrases on them.... like the cat hanging from the branch saying "WHY ME?"

I'm afraid I'd either have needed a new doc... or I'd have gifted the doc with new posters.

One in my old Ob-GYN's office was the cat holding on that said "Hang in there, Baby!"

Ladies, why is it during these posts I am having the strong mental image of the posters in my tattoo artists studio? The ones that say things like "Hell Yeah It Hurts!"

I never had a Beacon of Restraint license, what nutter would give me one of those?

Hmm... looks like I'd better counter with a quick Jelly-Leg Hex. Good thing you don't know about the Unforgivable Curses yet. Or maybe try out one of my very own...

Where HAS the time gone?

I don't wanna talk about it! I don't wanna talk about it!!

Me neither! Feels like we just got home, and now, it's time to get ready to go out again. Not sure what happened to the time.

My ob/gyn must have had his wife decorate the place cuz in all of his exam rooms there are posters and cute phrases that degrade men.

Well, I don't think I'd want that one either! Wonder if I'm just all messed up to be comfortable in a doctors office with a cheesy painting and posters of medical ailment info?

Evening all…

I just found out that someone was killed two weeks ago in a car wreck in California.

His name was Corey; he was 28 years old; he wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle.

In 1979 my family moved into the house my mother still owns. Among the neighbors, across lots (one walked through our backyard and theirs to get to their back door) are an elderly couple who have lived there all their lives, raised their children there, and frequently baby-sat two of their grandchildren. We befriended this couple and, by extension, their grandkids, who were 7 and 3, a girl and a boy. The boy was Corey.

Over the next several years I occasionally sub-babysat Corey, enduring Scooby Doo and The Dukes of Hazzard when I couldn’t get him out of the house, and taking him along on my treks to the post office when I went to get the mail.

I saw him once more after I left home in 1985; I came back on leave from Fort Bragg in 1989, and wanted to take my dad out in my new car; Corey was at his grandparents’, and we picked him up and took him along. He was 13 then.

I never saw him again, though my mother did.

In spite of having seen him in ’89, the first thought I have when I think of him comes from a photo I took in the summer of 1983, just after I graduated high school; a sturdy little fellow of 7, standing in his grandparents’ yard, a doghouse and some country woods in the background.

To all and sundry: Wear Your Damned Seat Belts!

I’m thinking of scripting a PSA in support of Michigan’s "Click it or Ticket" campaign. The tagline would be "If you get a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt, be glad it’s the worst you got. You could die, and that would hurt more people you can readily count." Or words to that effect.

And my spaghetti is boiling over, so I end this post.

LOL! My brother, Gerry, is an AF Acadmeny grad. He called it "The Zoo".

Did you remember to get a Hobbit Hole knife for him? I'm not sure he's on my list.

Oh, and general apologies for being so scarce online lately. My landline at home was down until just today, and I have to sneak freep at work on this shift.

Just got back from the thread where Jonah Goldberg compares Reagan to Gandalf. [sniff] What an apt comparison. Dunno if I can place anybody else in the good roles in LOTR. But there are plenty of RATS to fill the ranks of orcs, trolls, etc.
