Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...That none have seen but we alone.

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

We'll have to have "Entmoot0*" when Hobbit comes out.

Maybe Peter Jackson can get some movie sized scripts written based on all the major parts of the 'Silmarillion' for the 9000 years of Middle Earth history before the War of the Rings! Tht would be about 300 or so trilogies, correct?

You'll have read 'em all by the time I'm done with you, I'm sure, Rosie.

Pippin, I used to be a major Potter fangirl, between age 16 and 18. Sometimes I have flashbacks. Like today. Can't wait to see the movies. I read the books aloud to my sibs the weekend they're released.

Ugh, just had an hour of network problems. Finally back online.

So far I've only eaten one (the brown egg with the speckles - whose egg is that?) I kinda got egged out so I haven't been eating them every day.

That's Puffy's egg...with the speckles.

The liver pudding survived the power outage...I iced it down right away.

I'm frying up a slice now!

Let's see. We own about three complete sets, including one "English" set. I still have to get my own set, though, for when I move, although 'Philosopher's Stone' (English version of the first book) is mine.

Your library will definitely have them! Or, most of them are paperbacks now, check Borders.

Which is the second? I keep meaning to check the library, but last time I looked, I wasn't sure.

I have just discovered another candidate for the answer to the hotly-debated question, "What is lembas?":

"He took them across a reach of meadow to where low bushy trees overhung a meandering brook. The 'leaves' were growths the size of a man's hand, irregular in shape, and an inch or more in thickness. . .Lazarus plucked one and examined it. It broke easily, like a well-baked cake. The inside was creamy, yellow, spongy but crisp, and had a strong pleasant odor, reminiscent of mangoes. . .The stuff was oddly pleasing, firm enough to suit the teeth, piquant though elusive in flavor. It settled down happily in his stomach and made itself at home. . .Lazarus took full advantage. . .to make a full meal--the best, he decided, that he had had in years."

--Robert Heinlein, "Methusaleh's Children", Part 2, Chapter 4

"Chamber of Secrets". It's pretty good. Lockhart is grand. Then comes "Prisoner of Azkaban", my favorite, "Goblet of Fire", which is weak, and "Order of the Phoenix", my second favorite.

My sibs and I will quote each other lines from the books, esp. PoA, which has a lot of great one-liners. Or sometimes point at dishes and say 'scourgify' and be disappointed when they don't wash themselves.

Oh, yeah. Definitely, definitely yeah. For one thing - this is the book that inspired me to take up fanfiction, which taught me how to write, and spurned my great ambition to Be An Author.

Try to avoid spoilers, if you can, the Big Twist is pretty good.

Yeah - well our toilet has been overflowing for the last 'who knows how long' and we had an inch of water in the bathroom running out into the hallway. I think the clumping cat litter in the closet is a loss....

Well I hope you are really around for awhile, because we have to get out the door to the beach house. Be back late tonight.
