I really liked Clay and glad he's doing so well- a very kind, humble, and genuine individual.

Bump to that! I'm thrilled he's doing so well!

Fantasia better win! She's the far far far better talent. :-)

No she's not. She's not even in Diana DeGarmo's league.

Fantasia is a one trick pony. She can only sing (scream actually) in a black gospel style and even at that her voice is so nasaly and grating that I have to turn down the volume so my windows don't shatter. Sure she will have a following, but it will be limited to Urbanites.

The "ALL" AMERICAN idol is Diana DeGarmo. She sings circles around Fantasia. And she can sing any kind of song and make it sound good. Her voice is beautiful. Her stage presence has grown tremendously over the last few months. She is only 16 and has a control over her voice that usually only comes with about 20 years of hard practice. She is a natural. She deserves to win.

You're right. Idol, Survivor and Trading spaces....all little mini-vacations for the mind. Although, I have to say, I've actually learned a few things from watching Trading Spaces.

Not having read the thread to bias my opinions, let me give my review...

DIANA ("Believe") -- I thought she sang this pretty well, although the "performance" aspect was a bit lacking. Not much of a surprise on either count. A good start to the show.

FANTASIA ("All My Life") -- What was Fantasia thinking when she chose this song/arrangement? It showcased her worst qualities -- a muddled "ballad" section punctuated by some screaming in the middle. At this point, it looked like a slam-dank for Diana tonight.

DIANA ("Enough Is Enough") -- Another solid outing for Diana, and with a better "performance" to go with the singing this time. Randy summed it up for me when he said it sounded like she came to win.

FANTASIA ("Summertime") -- Player to her strengths, although this is the third time (including the Top 5 special) she's performed this in a month and a half. Maybe for that reason, it seemed emotionally flat compared to the first time she did this number. Nevertheless, she sang well and made a good recovery from a disastrous first song.

DIANA ("Don't Cry Out Loud") -- Oh, but I wanted to when she lost the key for a few seconds, the discordant notes were that painful. She made a nice recovery, and I believe her when she said she couldn't hear -- the air mix sounded very wrong for that song, so it's a safe assumption that the monitors on stage were strange too. All in all, a shame this had to be her last outing for the night.

FANTASIA ("Believe") -- Another good performance from Fantasia, although compared to Diana, the singing was fairly weak (can Fantasia hold a note for longer than 2 seconds?) while the performance effect was better. Fantasia will certainly benefit from Diana's stumble and from going last.

Overall -- pretty close tonight, when weighing all three songs. Both girls had one bad outing and two solid ones. Not that it matters much, as those stuffing the ballot box overnight had already made up their minds long before this broadcast. Give Fantasia a slight edge for the evening, but Diana wins the contest based on previous weeks and being more likable.

Simon has told Diana before she might win. He said she could be the dark horse.

I said that -- before Simon -- here on FR the week Jennifer was voted off.

IMHO, the reason so many tune in to Idol is to escape the leftist media.

Amen!

You can't believe some of the stuff I'm watching these last few weeks.......LOL.

HA! Talk to me when you've sunk so low as to watch QVC. Not only did I watch, but I actually bought something. I only hope I can live with the shame!

Talk to me when you've sunk so low as to watch QVC.

You're going to have to come up with something better than that!

Bissell Upright Deep Cleaner w/PowerBrush & On-Board Tools
SUPERCLOTH Set of 3 Multi-Purpose Cleaning Cloths
Laura Geller 2pc Bronze and Brighten Kit with Brush
Laura Geller Spackle Cream Under Makeup Primer, 2 oz.
CyberHome DVD Recorder with Progressive Scan and Remote Control

This month. :-)

No, I don't believe she can. I think that is why she yeah...yeah...yeah...yeahs all over the place. It's annoying to me.

Sometimes watch QVC but haven't bought anything lately. Once bought a huge red velvet Mexican sombrero for a gag gift. We still laugh at the joke! And the hat sits right here in the corner of my office.

She did hit a sour note, but she is still better than Fantasia. I can't take the whiny voice too long. My sister says she sounds like she sucked down some helium before each song. LOL! That describes her sound to me perfectly.

I liked LaToya the best. But of the two I have to pick from, I definitely prefer Diana. I gave her 10 to 15 votes last night.

I also thought the judges were completely unfair, even worse than last year. Fantasia is nowhere near the BEST contestant. I like Reuben and Kelly FAR better than Fantasia.

In an interview on our local station last night, Fantasia was positively embarassing. The worst grammar I've heard since N.C. State football player interviews.

I guess it's subjective. Fantasia screeches in my ears. LaToya was the real talent. Like Clay, I would buy her cd without being the winner. Of the remaining two, I might buy Diana's cd, but no way Fantasia's. She's got a big following though. Hey, the judges will all buy her cd if no one else.

Agree with your comments. I truly believe if Kelly, Ruben and Clay (and Kim Locke for that matter) had been in the same year with Fantasia, Fantasia would never had made the final. However, I do think LaToya could have held her own with that group. Seems that LaToya and Fantasia were probably splitting the vote, and/or LaToya didn't have the bubbly personality. which gave Fantasia a slight edge.

Heard a little while ago that there is about a 1% difference in the voting between winner and runnerup. Also heard a very interesting comment by Nigel (Producer - last name escapes me) that there is one other vote that matters, and I believe he was referring to the judges. Does make me wonder if Diana won, but the judges have overridden? Hey, we need a little conspiracy theory here! LOL

LaToya didn't have the bubbly personality

I know people might disagree... but as much as I thought that La Toya was the best singer in the competition, I believe more that she didn't possess the intangible "star quality" that's needed to win it. Her professional demeanor came across as cold and haughty/arrogant, and she never laid it all on the line with a single song... as if she was saving herself for the rest of the 90-minute set.

La Toya should have easily placed ahead of Jasmine, but looking over the past month or so ("crunch time") of the competition, I have to say that as much as I personally dislike Fantasia, I do believe the correct two people made the finals this year.

Now excuse me while I put on a flame-retardant outfit to await replies. :)

Just mix some vinegar and hot water in a bowl, and let it sit out in the room he's painting. Should eat the odor up.
