Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
A sudden tree or standing stone
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Yes, it was... It was my mom that did that. She bought six cubes, peeled off all the stickers and made six cubes that were all one color. Mine is yellow. Brilliant, that.
The one predictable thing that people say about it is "hey that's cheating... it makes it too easy".
To them I say... no... it makes it impossible. :-)

So WeddingMoot should be a learning experience for me as well!! I'll constantly be asking...
What time is it?
What time is it?

That is incredibly geeky. Almost makes me wish I'd seen those days.
Wow, catching up on the thread tonight is a history lesson!

Exactly! How do you know when you've won if all sides look the same? *wink*

I view it as a metaphor on life in general. You never really know when you have it right.

Simialr to Combat.
Don't remember the title offhand.
Had one of those odd shaped plastic cartridge cases, the lonbg one with the wide base.
Worked, usually, but sometimes it'd cough and teh game would blip.
The sound would cut out and you'd hear "Gribble gribbl;e gribble gribble" come from the speakers.
Pretty cool, actually.
Kinda like playing Mortal Kombat with the Super Nintendo and having Goro fly completely across the screen on the Title screen.
(He was supposed to run up to the Midway logo and knock it off the screen.)

Hmm--not familiar with that one.
I've been playing Pac-Man online the past hour or so :) It's hard to control without the joystick just using the buttons. I've only been able to get 9,400 and clear the first screen so far.

I have to dig out the paper list I have stashed in the box with the console.
I wrote it down back then.

Pong! I had that one. That was early Atari, wasn't it?

I think Pong was pre-Atari, but I'm not sure--need to look that up.
I also remember a shooting game where you had a plastic pistol you could shoot at a Pong-like ball bouncing around the screen. That was fun :)

Roger that.
For some reason I'm reminded of one of my best friends that named his daughter "Chelan" (for whom I am the designated Godfather). Lake Chelan is a lake here in washington, over on the other side of the mountains. It happens to be the place where she was concieved... but I digress. "Chelan" (pronounced Shell-ann) is a local indian word meaning "Deep, still water". Lake Chelen is 1500 feet deep, and over sixty miles long.
I've always thought that it was an awesome name for her. The natural short form is "Shelly" or "Shel". It was inspired.

THAT is a VEY cool name and I'm not usually prone to New Age-type names. (Rebecca and Alyson are proof of that!)
But Chelan is a lovely name. :-)

Ok, "Van Helsing" report. It was stupid, but in mildly cool ways. Pretty typical monster-hunting flick. Some of it felt really, really cheesy, like a bad 60s movie, but I think that was the aim. Nothing really new, except maybe the portrayal of Dracula as almost a mad scientist. Special effects people went nuts.
I had fun anyway. Hugh Jackman's cute. Rosie, David Wenham was in it as a sidekick. He's not as cute without the hair and beard.
Not great. A good matinee movie, I had fun. Um, it felt a bit like "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen", if that helps make choices.

Yepprs, I had a Simon, and still have a working Super Simon at my mother's. Tried to get elf-boy to play it not too long ago. He wasn't very good at it, then again he *is* only 5 yrs old. I had forgotten how complicated the patterns get sometimes.

That what I thought at the time. My first reaction was that it was sorta odd... but it grew on me quick. Chelan. It works.
I really got into the whole Godfather thing. The mom is very catholic, and I had to meet with the priest beforehand and he had to "approve" me. It was my job to promise to take care of her in case they could not, and I got to perform part of the baptism ceremony. It was cool. It was an honor.
She's now about nine, and a great kid. [snif]

I found the ole snake I had. Used to make a ball with it in under 3 seconds. Needless to say, my record is not gonna be improved any time soon by me. Elf-boy loves the snake. Wonder if you can get those new? Mine is a little in need of lubrication or something...
