Ok, "Van Helsing" report. It was stupid, but in mildly cool ways. Pretty typical monster-hunting flick. Some of it felt really, really cheesy, like a bad 60s movie, but I think that was the aim. Nothing really new, except maybe the portrayal of Dracula as almost a mad scientist. Special effects people went nuts.

I had fun anyway. Hugh Jackman's cute. Rosie, David Wenham was in it as a sidekick. He's not as cute without the hair and beard.

Not great. A good matinee movie, I had fun. Um, it felt a bit like "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen", if that helps make choices.

I haven't seen League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, so I'm kind of still in the dark there. I'm curious how they made Dracula into a mad scientist. Any new methods of slaying vampires?

Rose and I saw "Van Helsing" tonight as well, enjoyed it. Unpretentious summer popcorn movie, but fun for all that. Was surprised to see Faramir as the comic relief sidekick, thought he did a good job of it!

I saw a preview last night, and got that feeling. Clare wanted to go last night, but the friends she was going with were not able to. One of her friends is leaving for Japan tomorrow for a couple of weeks. Clare is SO jealous!

Did you watch the Harry Potter special last night? Azkaban looks like it's gonna be fun! We finished reading "Order of the Phoenix" last week out loud with the kids. SSQ had not read it, so we had fun reading it to him. He liked it!

We began "A Wrinkle in Time" last night. Did you know it's going to be on ABC tonight?
