For some reason I'm reminded of one of my best friends that named his daughter "Chelan" (for whom I am the designated Godfather). Lake Chelan is a lake here in washington, over on the other side of the mountains. It happens to be the place where she was concieved... but I digress. "Chelan" (pronounced Shell-ann) is a local indian word meaning "Deep, still water". Lake Chelen is 1500 feet deep, and over sixty miles long.
I've always thought that it was an awesome name for her. The natural short form is "Shelly" or "Shel". It was inspired.

THAT is a VEY cool name and I'm not usually prone to New Age-type names. (Rebecca and Alyson are proof of that!)
But Chelan is a lovely name. :-)
