Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
Sorry, I'm calling bull$#it on your statistics. Thats 205 known attacks over how many years, how many locations and how many millions of people in the water?
And how do you know "people followed all that?"
2001 was the "year of the shark" I'm pretty sure that was even a Time cover story. There were three fatal attacks. Two of them happened within an hour north or south of where my family goes to the beach every summer. One in Virginia Beach. One in Avon, North Carolina. Both happened at around 6:00 p.m. WHEN SHARKS WERE FEEDING.
Statistically speaking, you have more of a chance of that spider biting off yer family jewels tonite than the average ocean swimmer has of a shark attack.
dum dum dum dum, dum dum dum dum...
...you will notice that Ramius speaks not at all of the Orca!
Fear the Orca baby.
That and the red jellyfish.
They're here.
Ooooh, sorry, my cable modems have always been silent. Does it hinder operation at all? Or just sound funny?
Be afraid, be very afraid!
check your mail.
nite folks.
don't let the bed-spiders bite.
Well, since ya said please and since I owe you for fixing my computer I'll be nice :) Truthfully, I was partly teasing Ruthy, and also myself because I happen to have the same phobia she does in this area; but I also have some opinions on the subject which I was honestly expressing--like you I've been interested in marine stuff for a long time. If you have a different opinion than me I respect that. Sorry if I started an argument when I was just meaning to make conversation over something I'm interested in. And I certainly don't mean to spoil weddingmoot for anyone. My apologies.
Actually, no one in their right mind swims in the Sound anyway for the very good reason that the water is colder than the gates of Hades once you get out of the calf-depth shallows. You're extremely safe unless you fail to bring a good pair of Tevas to keep your feet away from the barnacles.
Corin, I apologize if I offended you. I didn't mean to start an argument about statistics, just shooting the bull over a topic I'm interested in and have opinions on. I hope no offense is taken. Have a good night.
It sounds funny--painfully loud at times, so loud I sometimes end up rebooting to get rid of it. It hasn't hindered operation yet (that I've noticed), but since I don't know the cause I'm concerned there may be a potential problem.
Well, thanks for accepting my excuse :) I try not to be mean spirited, but sometimes I seem to do it anyway despite myself!
Anyway as for the cold water, that'd probably be enough to deter me, too. I have a long-term circulation problem in my limbs and right ear from getting near-hypothermia on my first diving certification test, which was in late October when the water was very cold. Ever since then I've had a problem dealing with cold water.
Well, have a good night, Scott! I'm going to log off here before I put my foot in my mouth any more than my allotted quota for the day, so have a good night, everyone.
No offense taken.
Mornin' folks. IT'S FRIDAY!
Neither does SuziQ! ;o)
I love Colorado, but I think MO might be better for the next one. It would make it easier for 2J and her family to be there, since she missed the last one. OB and LSA could come, too, and it wouldn't be too very far for Bear, Rose and the rest of the Texas contingent!
Good morning!
Friday indeed! This week went fast...but I'm always glad to have a weekend!
They are VEY cute, but why not white flip flops with yellow flowers? ;o)
All right, Margaret!!
Clare got her permit 3 weeks ago, but we haven't had the chance to get her behind the wheel yet. I was gonna start out letting her drive around an empty parking lot on a Sunday evening, but we haven't been HOME on a Sunday evening since she got it! This Sunday will probably work out, though. She's not hot to trot about it, but we'll go VEY slowly with it so she'll be less nervous. There's just SO much traffic around here, that it even still spooks me sometimes, and I've been driving for 35 years!
'Morning.
Kitty doesn't seem to like flaxseed in her blue milk.
That's when audio books come in REAL handy!
