Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A sudden tree or standing stone

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

You cain't just say "scuse me whilst I obtain my firearm?"

LOL! Of course it would be handy if you could do like Bugs Bunny and pull an Acme bomb out of nowhere whenever required :)

Thought you'd enjoy this exchange with Kay:

Diana:

Found the perfect wedding gift. Sharper Image has just come out with a Lord of the Rings pinball machine – it’s a mere $4,999. Now if I can just figure out how to wrap it!

Got Jessie’s dress. Not too thrilled with the fit. Ordered a different one yesterday. When it comes in, I’ll stop by with both and let you decide. Also ordered 2,800 shells yesterday- -- hope that’s enough! We might totally disrupt the eco-system of your beach!

Thought you might enjoy seeing the latest addition(s) to our household. It goes to show I have NO control whatsoever! They’re arriving Friday (we think).

Kay

How many Al Pacas? All three of those? LOL! - Why????

"Also ordered 2,800 shells yesterday- -- hope that’s enough! "

I have been talking about guns all morning... so that read funny!

I think it might really confuse an paleontologist someday.

Diana

Yes they are alpacas – yes all three of them. You have to have two which left the third by himself – so they just threw him in as a package deal.

Why – now that’s a good question. Since Alpacas of America moved into DanDar farms, Bob and Jessie have been frequent visitors. If you thumb through her school journal it frequently cites trips to visit “her” alpacas. She’s been lobbying for one for almost a year. They called on Saturday with a deal Bob couldn’t refuse – though I’m not sure there’s any deal he’d pass up. But part of the deal was joining 4-H – so that happened Monday evening.

What the heck. . . . .

Kay

Yeah, I agree - I'm not very strong

That is true, Miss Kaoru, if you think of fighting with your upper body. But if you think of fighting with your whole body, strong indeed, that you are :)

I finally saw an alpaca at the zoo a couple weeks ago--they're neat! :)

About five years ago Bob went to a horse auction and came home with two Llamas that he felt sorry for and bought. They were apparently just thrown in with the horses in a pen and were being traumatized.

Kay couldn't believe it... I said "if Bob takes his trailer with him to the sale when he isn't even ~shopping~ for a horse, be prepared for anything."

He told her that "Some of them hippies are now using llamas on trail as a pack animal, and the horses need to get accustomed to them so they won't spook." He kept them for a few years. Just this last year or so he gave them to a llama rescue place he found. Now they have AlPacas! Next week: The great emu deal....

I keep thinkin' I want some more livestock, but cain't really do that in our neighborhood. Told the wife we needed some chickens. She just stared at me.

'bout the best I'm gonna do is to get a good fish tank goin'.

You still have your fish Hair? You haven't mentioned 'em lately. 'Course you got other things on your mind.

Those alpacas are so cute, but I can only imagine having to deal with those coats. Aren't they shorn like sheep on occasion?

I'm so glad you mentioned fish, Corin!

I have something to add to the "be careful what you pray for" list....

Lately, I've been praying that the Lord would remove unnecessary burdens from my life in order to reduce my stress. Yesterday morning, I woke up to find that all of my fish (except the bettas) had died. All SEVEN of them, from catfish to tetras. For no reason. Spooky!

When my mom found me standing in front of the 20 gallon tank, with the fish food in my hand, she peered into the tank and said "The fish are all dead?!"

I looked at her, shrugged and said "Praise the Lord!" *sigh*

I feel terrible about losing all of my fish, especially the cory cats which I loved, but they were undoubtedly an unnecessary burden in my life. No arguments there.

The bettas are easy to care for, so it looks like God spared them (for now). LOL!

LOL! My mother's college friend has a daughter who loves horses. When she was in high school, she surprised her mom one day by coming home with a horse she had just bought. . .

So what's the emu story? :)

Well, I'm glad you have less stress!

I'm pretty good at killin' fish.

I still have the tank and with just two neons in it and about a thousand snails. The last Bala shark committed suicide and jumped out. Next time I am at the pet store, I am at least gonna pick up a Beta fish.

There won't be an emu story till next week ;~D

Seriously, his neighbors have emus... the novelty has probably worn off the idea of coming him with one of them.

They are a pain to clean, I had hoped mine would all die so I could get rid of the bother for awhile... but they aren't dying, and with just two little neons in mine it stays pretty clean. I don't even have the filter running.

Alpacas? I prefer llamas.

A lot of homeschoolers I've known raised goats. Mom always said we weren't real homeschoolers because we didn't have goats.
