Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
A sudden tree or standing stone
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

My father's solution to a similar situation was... a paintball gun.

Paintball gun might work. Or maybe mail the neighbors fence brochures.

Thanks for the ping XGI. That was good to read in the midst of what's going on in the media. Of course, a statement like that won't make media... but it confirms that our justice is true and even the Iraqi prisoner seems to acknowledge that.

nothing like the Lamb sisters, who put on trousers and hauled shot --- that was great to read!!! I was happy that POB put women in a position where they could prove the old sailor's superstition (women being bad luck on a ship) false, and did it with spirit and good humor! And I think it revealed something more specific in Jack : that the reason why he doesn't want women on board isn't because he 'hates' them, but because he spends an inordinate amount of time worrying about them, knowing full well what sailors would try with the opposite sex nearby, and feels personally responsible if something bad happens...that on top of feeling personally responsible if something bad happens to his men!
Sophie at least has my respect as well, if not my total liking. My incompleteness of regard can be said of Diana too. I'm never fully sympathetic to either one of them, which really can be said of all the characters. POB makes them so fully human and real, it's hard to choose a favorite and most-hated. But Jack grabbed up my heart as quick as he could, and its been hardest to dissuade that of all the characters.

Paintball is good because 1) it'll hurt like a sonuvagun, yet won't seriously injure the animal and 2)will provide visual cues to the owner that the animal was where he shouldn't have been.
Animal control should also have some live traps available. They're kinda scary looking, so maybe just having it in the yard will freak the neighbors out about what your intentions really are toward their dog. Muahahaaa.

There is a lot to the story I don't yet understand!
Will have to check in again later...
I am sure you have already gotten your notification about the yahoo site, you are in... If you go to the files section, you'll see a place to upload audio... then you can ping people to hear it.... it probably will only work for members since it is a glosed group... All of us are members (I think) but if anyone isn't, just have them click the join link and one of us will approve it.

Dad made shrimp last night for Margaret's buffet dinner - we had mostly Chinese food, plus some other little snacks - but basically we were the only two that ate any! So he gave me a big bag of leftover shrimp. Tossed some with olive oil and Tony's and I'm having that for lunch...with some green Tabasco, too. Yum!
I love other people's birthdays...;-)
Speaking of which...Happy Birthday to Sir SuziQ!

Back from the National Day of Prayer Observance. I didn't stick around to hear Dr. Fallwell (I gots a meeting at 1:15...yeah...that's it).
BUT, may I just say...
Even if you ARE a "National Christian Recording Artist," if'n ya don't know the words to the National Anthem, ya shouldn't agree tuh sing it!

Jen is in her happy place. The second half of Rurouni Kenshin finally arrived. Now, why did I say I'd work until 7?

I invite your attention to the following. I saw that thread. Sounds from the story like the abuse only happened for a couple of weeks until the military authorities shut it down. It certainly didn't sound like there was anything sytematic about it. And the man about whom the story was written isn't mad at all Americans, only the few soldiers who hurt him and those few fellow prisoners involved.

I like the paintball gun idea. It would show the neighbors in WHOSE yard the dog had been!

Happy Birthday to Sir SuziQ!LOL! I'll give him the message. This morning I was coming out of the laundry room, after having already brought coffee to him cause he was sitting up in bed working on the laptop. He was standing in the hallway with this sh*t eating grin on his face. I didn't know what the heck was up, and he said, do you remember what day it is? I was thinking, " it's Thursday, but we've already got the trash out on the street, so what else", then I remembered it was his birthday! I must have gotten a horrified expression on my face, cause he started bouncing around laughing at me!! All I could say was "I've had so much on my mind in the last 24 hours"; he just laughed and said he knew what I meant! ARRGH!
Anyway, I'd already ordered him some t-shirts and another 'Hawaiian' shirt for the summer, so I have gifts on the way. And I had talked him into buying himself a nice Dremel tool set last weekend. We aren't going to have cake until Sunday because we're going to do a joint Birthday/Mother's Day celebration when Clare and I get back from our camping trip. The Hawaiian shirt came in this morning so I'll wrap that up, and I'll get him a card while I'm out.
I did feel rotten for a few minutes, though! ;o)

Ohio, um, however you say "afternoon" in Japanese again :) You have more Kenshin to watch?--yay!!! Speaking of which, my brother suspects the reason I was only able to bake one-third of that one cookie is because the cookie needs to be cleaned, so I'm off to the store to buy some cookie-cleaning stuff. Back in a little while!
