Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A sudden tree or standing stone

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Nope ;~D I dont really. I just need to wait for them to ask me what I think before I speak. Turns out, my opinion wasn't needed and only complicated the situation!

Ah, dealing with relatives--the only part of weddings almost as much fun as paying the bill! :) Hair, you have my sympathies!

Hi everyone, checking in this morning (where does the time go? So busy it seems!)

Going to do much of nothing today, maybe get my tomatoes planted in their permanent home. Landscapers came in last week and installed two new drains in the back yard (we now have rock rivers going everywhere!)

They also are raising our lawn by putting a thick layer of sand right on top of the lawn and letting the lawn grow through it. Never heard of that before, but the lawn is poking through it! It's supposed to give elevation for run off to the drains and provide a layer of sand to sop up the rain water on the lawn iself (instead of having it turn into a swamp in the winter). Kind of amazing.

Missed the horse race yesterday...and I was trying to catch it. Sounded like a fun one.

The sand thing is a golf course trick. That's how they get the greens so firm and short, is by adding sand to it all the time!

You haven't played croquet till you have played here at the beach house. Overshoot, and the hill runs downhill all the way to the water ;~D

Tough comeback shot. Fight with the Orcas for your ball.

I can't run away. This party's for me. Argh. 55 people descending like cicadas in thirty minutes.

See you later. Maybe.

The ripe meat off the bone is finished and sister left to play her gig. Now I need to get that dead bird out of the carport and cut a cat toy from the nandina bush for Miss Kitty.

Ugh...dead bird?

We had our gig this morning...played while people were getting seated for commencement at the college. We left before the guest speaker...probably rude, but we tried to be as inconspicuous as possible, and we'd already been told we didn't HAVE to stay.

Gig went pretty well. I got nervous toward the end and was hitting sour notes here and there. Ugh.

But that was about the easiest hundred bucks I've ever made. Half an hour of playing while no one paid attention to us. Too bad I already owe the money and only have it long enough to clear the bank.

I think one of the cats had a good day.

Yeah, if my sister could work an 8-hour day for $100/ hr she'd be sittin' pretty.

Funny that, we just got done watching Shrek with elf-boy. He got Shrek 3-D from Gamma when Abigail was born.

Haven't played croquet in ages! Should drag out the old set--got the lawn for it now. No orcas, though!--hmmm, croquet water polo, interesting idea, except getting the horses to swim with the orcas might be a challenge. . .

55 people--whew!--that's almost half a gross! (Though of course "gross" isn't appropriate to use when counting people.) Well, look on the bright side: at least you should get 55 presents, right? :) And you can always tell them that you know less than half of them half as well as you'd like, and you like less than half of them less than half as well as they deserve; and then while they're confused trying to figure out whether that works out to a compliment or not, you can put on your ring and disappear! :)

Good luck surviving your long-expected party! I'll be working on some drawings of Heroine while you're gone; hopefully have something done by the end of the day.

Pretty neat you can pick up extra money doing that! And at least you didn't drink the $100 away like the Blues Brothers did :) How often do you get paying gigs like that?
