Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner we may meet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Eww, besides, you reminded me of the solution to that problem - public nudity - and envisioning some of my classmates - ewww!

ROFL! I forgot about that part :) No, no nudity in our story, just brainwashed students and evil professors :) Or if you don't want the students to be brainwashed they could be possessed instead--maybe that's why they want to inflict their drivel on the rest of us. Perhaps by tormenting humanity with their bad writing they're raising evil cosmic energy to open an interdimensional gate. . .

Thanks fer the suggestions about the forsythia.

The more I think about it, the more I think about it the more I think it prolly wasn't critters. There's a lot more healthier looking green stuff out there. These were still basically sticks with some small buds.

And I don't think I have plant thieves in the neighborhood.

I think it was probably three little munchkins out in the yard Saturday. Luke wouldn't think to do it on his own. But my nephews would just do it. They're trouble together and they can get Luke to go along with them. We had to get them out of the leaves several times and they were riding Luke's bike back there.

That's gotta be it.

If I could prove it or if I had seen them, the three small forsythia plants would have turned into three switches.

I like writers who draw from real experience like that. For instance I also like the way Dashiell Hammett could work his PI experience into his writing, or Ian Fleming his espionage experience into his James Bond novels. Sounds like I'd like Drake.

You guys read John Ringo? His series starting with "A Hymn Before Battle" is really rocking military SF.

Some little anime thing.... just bein' topical!
Back inside now.... all told I prolly mowed about an acre of canary grass... Blasted stuff looks like other grass, but they won't eat it. It doesn't seem to like to be cut short, so I am hoping I kinda weaken it so the other grass can grow. HA! It'll still be the healthiest plant out there in two weeks.

It's nice out though, and I got a sunburn out of the deal.

Who is that visiting the Hole now?

I haven't the foggiest idea... just some anime character I found online, and figgered would make a good visitor for the hole.

Haven't read him, but if you recommend it I'll check it out, since I know you know your SF :) BTW speaking of military SF, I have to mention Starship Troopers :)

Looks like our #2 son, David, will be joining y'all down in Texas in late August! He'll be in Grad School at UT Austin. He's thrilled that he'll be somewhere next winter where it will be warm! He's lived all his life in Yankeeland, either in NJ, MA or PA, so this will be a big change for him! It will also gives us a good excuse to come to Texas from time to time!

I have read Starship Troopers so many times, I need a new copy. Ringo's the only military SF I've enjoyed nearly as much as Starship Troopers. Unless you count Lois McMaster Bujold's "Miles Vorkosigan" series as military SF, but I think it's really more space opera.
