Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Still round the corner we may meet...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

my mom calls all of her loved ones George, regardless of their given name or gender.
I think it may have something to do with her own name. Her name is Gerrye. When written, someone who doesn't know her might (and they usually do) read it as George.

We're standing there taking pictures and all of a sudden the entire wedding party starts humming the Star Trek theme...LOL! I'd love to see the picture taken just as that was happening!

Even with the "Humans are stupid, Save the Whales" theme, I really enjoyed Star Trek IV.

Duston Bumps... hmmm... that's bad.
I knew a guy once named Hammer. His given name was Jack - no, really, it was a family name. So, they used a nickname - Tack.
I'm really, really not joking.

names for kids...
I,like many girls, had all sorts of names picked out by the time I was in midle school. When elf-boy came along, though, ALL the names went out the window.
My method is family names. I don't quibble about how far back I go to find the right name either. Elf-boy is named after William Austin Anderson (1895-1965), a WWI vet, and John Brooks Darby (1848-1911), a CSA vet.
For this baby, PE and I have agreed that we'd like picking names from the founders of our great nation, in addition to family names.

Congrats to Sonya! Babies are great! My nephew (~7 mos) is coming to visit today. I decided to buy some clothes for him... buying baby clothes is so fun! (They're so wittle and cute. Wittle shirts, wittle shorts, wittle socks and shoes- whee!)

Any chance 'Sledge' was a nickname?

The only clothing this baby will ever need...

She'll probably send the kid off to be raised in Cuba or Central America, where pro baseball players are cultivated.

nope! Sledge was probably born around 1911 in central Texas. He married my great grandfather's niece, Rosine.

I have many examples of odd names in the family tree. Thankfully, I have many more names than those to choose from.

Woo Hoo! Will it be born before the end of the Baseball season? If it's a boy is it going to be Edgar?
