Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner we may meet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Kurosawa has a film that's kind of Macbeth-ish--maybe when she visits you at school you can show her that. What non-fiction does she like?

I don't know that she likes any of it. She's at the stage where mostly she just reads for school and doesn't want to do much reading beyond that. She is a history major, focusing on British or Ren/Ref history (hey, she's frosh, doesn't have to decide yet).

Okay, history--that helps--hmmm, historical fiction manga. . .

Not manga. Straight comics. She's not gotten used to manga-style yet, and besides, I'd give her Kenshin but it would take days for her brain to process the information right-to-left. (She's not good at things like that). Just superhero comics, if you have any suggestions.

Oh, and she's even more of a prude than I am. No naughty stuff.

Regular comics--okay, that opens the field up some, though still challenging. Alternatively, as we're talking I'm considering inventing a new superheroine--getting some ideas. . .what historical era do you think she'd like?

Hmm, probably High Middle Ages through early 1600s, or the Victorian Era, in England.

Tell me about this superheroine...

High Middle Ages? How about something like combining Kivrin with Joan of Arc? Have a picture in mind, need to draw it out. Rather than a bikini, she wears an elvish-looking cloak--concealing weapons, of course. She learned from her father, who was a Crusader that got mixed up in medieval politics and made some bad enemies, who would be the villains. . .

Oh, evil Moorish villians? Or evil other crusader villians? She sounds pretty cool. She could have an annoying sidekick who's a wandering minstrel who uses his lute to hurt the bad guys. Or threatens to play for them.

I'm going to bed... if you get more ideas, let me know, or if I can help you with research for a change! Ever use Heromachine (www.heromachine.com)? I use it to get weapons and clothing coordinated, the faces aren't very good.

Moorish villains? Hey, she could fight European traitors who are conspiring with Muslims! It'd be kinda like today's terrorist situation, only set in the Middle Ages.

Will think about the sidekick idea. Thanks for the Heromachine link--will check that out! Have a good night!

LOL! I've heard of dogs watching TV, never heard of them getting freaked by it. Maybe if you put a Lassie movie on they'll calm down :)

Hey thanks all for the birthday greetings today!

As always, I was treated very well for my birthday! Here Ramius and my dad are tryin' out my new metal detector on the beach.... They wanted to keep it.

I need it for the back forty!

And I got this bucket of chain! WOO HOO! Its for using with the come-along, and everything else you need chain for.

And I got a VCR! - I haven't had one since I gave away the one that would only play Raisin' Arizona... Been years since I have been able to tape something off TV if I wanted! Still need a VCR sometimes.

Was a lovely day at the beach..... here's ecurbh tryin' not to step on the neighbor's kick dog.

And Gidget chasin' waves.... she loves them. Or hates them.... hard to tell really.

Wow...wasn't a beautiful day?! My dogs got to swim a bit in the Sound too (down at Titlow Beach). It was like mid-summer in April.

and *really* glad you got that metal detector!

Me too.... I just know there are a couple more 55 gallon drums, an engine block or two, a couple more bed frames and another shopping cart, all buried just under the leaves out there.

So, is ecurbh going to be out scouring the back 40 for those items while you go to work this week? No telling if he's safe out there metal detecting alone!
