The 2 little dogs, the ones that get to live in the house, Minnow and Calla, think it's time to go sit on the couch and watch TV. But Jeanne's away in NYC and I rarely watch the thing, so they are acting slightly freaked.

I'm too tired to bother writing or researching. I'm even too tired to read a good book. Later I'll watch a movie or something.

Too bad you don't have any comics--those are good to read when you're tired because they're easier on the eyes than small-print books. What movies are you thinking of watching? I'll probably put on Fox's Sunday night line-up unless I think of something else.

I guess the main attraction for them is getting to sit next to Jeanne on the couch and be stroked occasionally for an hour or two. I don't think they actually care about the programs, although I am sure they associate the TV being on with warm and happy times.

LOL! I've heard of dogs watching TV, never heard of them getting freaked by it. Maybe if you put a Lassie movie on they'll calm down :)

I might just go to bed, actually, or I think we might be watching some Easter special on Fox? Whatever, I'm very passive tonight.

Dogs are such good friends. I prefer them to cats. Cats are just too aloof.

TCM has some good Easter specials, if you get that. Hey, BTW, you ever seen any of Kurosawa's samurai movies?

It depends on the cat. Mine wasn't aloof at all. I think that's partly a function of species, as I've noticed cats of some species seem to be friendlier than others.

Dogs really love you.

They have some great qualities, loyalty to family and homeplace, tolerance out of all proportion for their owners frailties combined with their extreme delight when you do even the littlest things for them, like feeding them the same dinner every night their entire lives, willingness to take great risk to defend what they care about, and I guess just their love and willing companionship.

On the samurai movies, you should really see Kurosawa's Seven Samurai--very influential film. He also did one that influenced Star Wars.

Again, when I have my own place... right now it's really inconvenient for me to get to the Blockbusters, especially if I'm not sure what night I can watch movies and which nights I'll have family duties.

Seven Samurai is now on my list of movies to see once I move out.

Too bad you can't get to Blockbusters. When you get your own place, here's the other film of his I was mentioning that influenced Star Wars:

Ah, I have heard of that one! I shall keep an eye out for both - I assume you can get them subtitled, at least...

Woohoo, I have succesfully explained to the boring sister that stories can be told A. with pictures (as in comics) or B. in anime. Now all I have to do is introduce her to Kenshin, and locate some superheros for all of us girls, and she has a chance.

Hi everyone!! I miss you all terribly and keep hoping for a chance to hang out in here, but life has been too hectic to allow it lately. I've barely posted to this new Hole!

I wanted to come in tonight and wish you all a very blessed Easter, and of course to say...

Massive obsessive-compulsiveness, intellectual snobbery, and hangs out with very small children. Um, she's only a little into SF and fantasy, so nothing too weird, no 'Badger' (guess she won't be reading Ranma, either). And we're both insulted by women who run around in bikinis, but there's not much choice there.

Hmmm, challenging--let me think about that. What non-fantasy/sf does she like?

She reads a lot of non-fiction for school. Actually she reads very little fiction, other than the SF I hand her. She does like "Discworld" and "Hitchiker's Guide". Um... James Herriot stories. Vaguely English stuff, like I do. Shakespeare.
