How many out there use their real names here? (vanity)
Posted on 03/24/2004 5:30:06 AM PST by Peter J. Huss
Just wondering. I switched a little while back, mainly because I didn't see why I should hide behind a fake name.
When I started using my real name, I was a wee bit more careful about what I posted.
Anyone care to chime in on this? Am I being foolhardy?

I use my real name. The rumors of my death at the orders of Theodoric have been greatly exaggerated over the years.

Nice find, LadyShallott.
Bookmarked ages ago and forgotten, though I was one of the conspirators.

I think the guy fried a lot of brain cells with his homegrown. To think that DirectTV, etc were conspiring against him is paranoia, which is a result of too much drug use.

Well we heard from him on the thread. Other than that (the local police went to his home) He hasn't been much of a threat. E-mails and the occasional comment seem to be his mode of operation. But the local law enforcement still contacts us. I am actually worried more about his family, specifically his mother. He talked openly about being abusive to her. I just hope this man gets some help.

Is this a post to warn people that there are paranoid pot heads out there or that there is a secret government?

Given what's on my profile page, my name is easy enough to figure out.

I have my picture in the freeper photo album and I think that could be more damning the my screen name.

If you don't mind guarding every word for fear of other freepers, you might want to be careful because of the whackos who visit the site but don't post. Death threats are not uncommon depending on what you say. Liberals are often out of control when challenged.
My style is somewhat bombastic on occasion. I assure you there are people here who hate me viscerally. Good luck Peter, I'm guessing you will be OK, but ya never know.

I had someone ask me if I was worried about it back when it really started to get headlines. I told them that if they wanted my credit, they could have it (I had filed for bankruptcy just before that). In fact I would have smacked the person upside the head and asked if they were stupid. To go after someone with such bad credit, they would deserve to serve extra time for being an idiot.

Using your real name can get you phone calls at home. I have been contacted by kooks several times after being interviewed by the mews media. I have no desire to start getting strange phone calls from outside of my state or country over what I say on the Internet.
May I ask why you are trying to shame people into divulging their names? You have been with us since Mar 3, 2004

I use my real name, but my brother and sister use Locke and Demosthenes.
They have reason to not use real names; I did not think about it when I signed up.

Well, I once was named "Kidd".
Then I changed it to:
"&"
Which of course, is unpronouncable, so everyone referred to me as the "Freeper_formerly_known_as_Kidd"
Now I'm back to "Kidd"

I actually use my real-world nickname. It's what everybody who knew me in college calls me.
Any super-genius internet detective could figure out my real name by clicking on my profile, though the picture really isn't me (yet).

I've been here since 1998, and (while I don't use it as a screen name) I've never been shy about revealing my true identity on FR. I've been, at times, a high-profile member of FR and have rarely steered clear of controversy. And I have never had the slightest problem. Just my experience.
