DENVER - A Denver synagogue was damaged with graffiti overnight. Swastikas were drawn on the synagogue on south Monaco Parkway.
The graffiti was in the doorway and across a sign. There were also several symbols drawn on the back wall of the building.
A holocaust survivor who saw the graffiti says it was almost too much to take. There was no official response available from the congregation Saturday, although several people who called 9NEWS to report the damage said that they blamed Mel Gibsons movie The Passion of the Christ for rekindling anti-Semitism.
Members of the congregation will gather Sunday morning to start cleaning off the graffiti.

This could be the intention of the news report, or maybe the media just trying to connect it to the controversy in general.

I havent seen The Passion yet, so I cant comment on its violence, but I did see Kill Bill Volume I....There the gore (while not as graphic as Pulp Fiction) was liberal and fun ie everyone got hacked up ....very egalitarian, certainly not unilateral.

I'm struggling, but since the movie I'm pretty sure that I don't want to be a member of a doctrine, which spreads suffering and fear, I will like to believe in future, happiness and the strenght of humans in doing good in future times.
I'm not willing, to get me scared, to be a better believer.
I want to get my life going on without fear of hell or other threats.
I'm just a very normal person, living by the rules (10 commandments), that's my Religion, my way of living, trying to follow these ethic laws.
You might not like it, but I thought I can tell some people, that there is a way not watching the movie and be a good decent person anyway.

Oh come on. Of course it is upsetting. Forgive me if I count your comment as caviling. I wasn't aware FR had instituted a moratorium on rhetorical flourish.
Did you get my point, or not?

A case of a teenager getting the idea of being atni-Semetic from people who were screaming about anti-Semeticism. It's like telling teenagers not to try pot...What do they do?...try pot!

PS. The Scriptures tell Christians to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Also they tell us that whever curses the Jews will be cursed and whoever blesses them will be blessed ... it would be a real dumb CHristian to go against their own beliefs.

"It's not right to blame people who are not going to watch...........!!!! It happens in my neighbourhood. Friend get into fights, friends blame the "no watchings", no believers! That's wrong."
It is wrong. No Christian has any obligation to see a movie about any biblical theme. We have only the obligation to study the scriptures and meditate upon them. I have not gone to see this movie because I don't want to see the violence. When I am asked if I saw it I just answer,"No, I read the book and it is not nearly as gruesome." I sort of think some people are going because they are afraid others will think they are not good Christians unless they go. And of course some people are truly inspired by it. Which is a good thing.
But with some people it is getting to be that if you are critical of this movie or you don't go see it, it means you don't love, Mom, apple pie, the flag, Jesus, the New Testament and worst of all you don't love Right Wing American Christians.
It will all blow over in a few weeks and something else sensational will take its place. That's life in America.

I am not a member of any church. My early training was Protestant, however I have never found a church to be comfortable.
The movie did for me what no church has ever done.
I now have a much more personal relationship with Jesus.
I still have no plans to attend a chuch however. That did not change and I am quite satisfied with that.
From my readings of scripture, church was never the most important element of faith. It was more a part of community.(still is IMO)

10Do not fear, for I am with you;
Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, surely I will help you,
Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.
11 Behold, all those who are angered at you will be shamed and dishonored;
Those who contend with you will be as nothing and will perish.
12 You will seek those who quarrel with you, but will not find them,
Those who war with you will be as nothing and non-existent.
13 For I am the Lord your God, who upholds your right hand,
Who says to you, Do not fear, I will help you.

It will all blow over in a few weeks and something else sensational will take its place. No, the film will not blow over, as you say.
Certainly in time, another movie will be in the top ten or whatever, but this film will be viewed for years to come.
You really have a misunderstanding about this.
I hope it get corrected one day.

I think a lot of the reason (not all, but a lot) for the hype was because liberals can't stand it when they don't control the message, i.e. the brainwashing.
To: Binti Jua
"YEAH RIGHT! Abe Foxman hates violence in movies."
Har! The ADL could probably use a new director. But there is a broad consensus that this a very violent, if not the most violent movie ever made.

The movie did for me what no church has ever done. I now have a much more personal relationship with Jesus. I still have no plans to attend a chuch however. That did not change and I am quite satisfied with that. I don't think this is quite what the Evangelical community had hoped for. They are in disagreement with the Fundamentalists over this movie because of the very points you raise.
