Mel Gibson says his wife could be going to hell
MSNBC ^ | 02/10/04 | Jeannette Walls

Posted on 02/10/2004 7:02:28 AM PST by evets

Gibson was interviewed by the Herald Sun in Australia, and the reporter asked the star if Protestants are denied eternal salvation. “There is no salvation for those outside the Church,” Gibson replied. “I believe it.” He elaborated: “Put it this way. My wife is a saint. She’s a much better person than I am. Honestly. She’s, like, Episcopalian, Church of England. She prays, she believes in God, she knows Jesus, she believes in that stuff. And it’s just not fair if she doesn’t make it, she’s better than I am. But that is a pronouncement from the chair. I go with it.”

On July 21st 1985 at the age of 35 I asked Jesus Christ to save me. At that moment I was "born again" Since that moment I have never had any doubt about being saved or going to heaven. I KNOW it for a fact.

So Saint Paul was mistaken when he said we are to "work out our salvation with fear and trembling"?

No that is not what I am saying at all.
Are you saying he was mistaken when he said:

Eph. 2:8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—
Eph. 2:9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

There goes your invitation to Christian brotherhood week. You do realize that whatever church (if any) you may belong to would not exist but for the pre-existence of the Roman Catholic Church. Guided by YOPIOS, it is understandable that you might imagine that you know better than the Teaching Magisterium (if you know what that is) the meaning of Scripture. What is nit understandable is the notion that Jesus Christ was incarnated, born, lived, performed His ministry as described in the Scriptures, suffered, died on the cross to atone for sins: yours, mine and everyone else's and resurrected fro the dead. all so that a rebellious monk could found his church nearly 1500 years later.

Don't you recognize that you are more than a bit full of yourself (with little evident reason for being so)? And quite disrespectfully so! Go to your room.

First (concededly non-responsive) I agree with the late (?) Rev. Mr. Criswell of the Dallas Theological Seminary that "a church begins to die when its throat is grasped by the palsied hand of liberalism."

Next, bear in mind that I am no scholar. I am a street-fighting elk. For scholarship, try the other folks I have bumped here or maybe they will suggest others.

Next, I suspect that the Southern Baptists never held to racial segregation as a matter of theology but simply as a practice within the ciontext of a segregated society. It is a fact that those outside Catholicism suspect it of CHANGING doctrines. It does not. Truth does not change with time. Although you see things differently as to some doctrines, I think you must and will agree that truth does not change with time. If it were otherwise, your presumed belief in sola Scriptura (since the Scriptures do not change) would make absolutely no sense whatsoever.

I am not familiar with Unam Sanctam or Semper eadem. Vatican II is too broad a category to be compared to anything. It issued specific documents. They were approved by Paul VI. Many were somewhat ambiguous in language which has caused much consternation among Catholics as you have probably noticed. The Truth, in and event, always continues to be the Truth, unchanged and unchangeable. We may differ as to specifics, but I believe that we would both say that.

Papal infallibility is papal infallibility. It is doctrine. It is dogma. It is true. You disagree. I understand that you disagree. That is one reason but only one why you are not Catholic. I am.

You are wrong or are taking a very misleading take on the meaning and scandalizing others in your ongoing apologia for a group (SSPX) which is OUTSIDE the Roman Catholic Church by virtue of being in schism but INSIDE the Mystical Body of Christ, but you knew that.

Taking the words literally would consign to hell each and every person who had no exposure to the Scriptures or to baptism. Why then did God write the natural law on the hearts of each of them? We Catholics are NOT Calvinists. If SSPX wants to take the tree house Boyz Club Only tack, go ahead. Just don't call it Catholicism.

If you were right, then all SSPX adherents would be excluded from heaven by virtue of the status as schismatic of the SSPX cult. You are wrong also about Feeneyism which is yet one more heresy piled upon the thousands that went before. Being fully Catholic and in communion with the pope is wisdom enough for me. Sorry about you. Tempus fugit. Memento mori.

Whether or not you regard my posts as relevant or resent emphasis by capitalization causes me no concern given the attitude expressed endlessly by you guys as to the papacy and this magnificent Pope John Paul II. He has the keys. You don't. "Catholic tradition" that rejects papal authority stands any rational definition of Catholic tradition on its head. I am in good company as you are not.

GirlShortstop: That was an unassisted triple play. Very nice!

Irishtenor: If you are actually Irish, you have drunk the soup. In any event, Ireland weeps over your misuse of her name, your abuse of her Faith and you are hereby formally declared ethnically anathema. You are stripped of your shamrock henceforth now and forever more.

Hey, that's nothing. Wait until you hear what Jack Chick says about us or what Lorraine Boettner says. Did you hear what we did to Maria Monk? It was in all the Know Nothing Party literature back in the mid-nineteenth century. Not only that but, don't tell anyone, the Knights of Columbus eat Protestant babies. They have a recipe book and everything.

By the way, I have a great real estate deal for you. There is this bridge that connects Brooklyn and Manhattan. I can get it for you wholesale (only by quitclaim deed and only for cash in small unmarked bills but lots of them). Whatta deal! You set up a toll gate and you are fixed for life. Generations of editors-surveyors yet unborn will bless your memory.

At His death and resurrection He redeemed you. Your salvation is still to be attained. Or did you forget what Paul said?

Whatever the actual reason for his excommunication

I thought (IIRC) that he was whacked for direct disobedience to his Bishop.

Haven't forgotten a thing have you?

1 John 5:11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
1 John 5:12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life
1 John 5:13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

Eph. 1:13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,
Eph. 1:14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God¡¦s possession¡Xto the praise of his glory.

John 3:16 ¡§For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,„T that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God¡¦s wrath remains on him.¡¨„T

John 5:24 ¡§I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.

John 10:27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
John 10:28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand.
John 10:29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all„T; no one can snatch them out of my Father¡¦s hand.

Rom. 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in„T Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 John 2:25 And this is what he promised us¡Xeven eternal life.

Eph. 2:8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith¡Xand this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God¡X
Eph. 2:9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
Eph. 2:10 For we are God¡¦s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Your salvation is not assured, you have been redeemed, but you are not yet saved.

Romans 11:22 See then the goodness and the severity of God: towards them indeed that are fallen, the severity; but towards thee, the goodness of God, if thou abide in goodness. Otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

To be saved you must be in a state of Grace. To be in a state of Grace you must be free from sin. "All have sinned". You are not saved, you are redeemed, you salvation is dependent on your obedience to Christ and His will. To sin, and we all sin, you demonstrate will full disobedience to Christ by. Matthew 7:21 "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven."

And I think you have forgotten Paul

Philippians 2:12 "Wherefore, my dearly beloved, (as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only but much more now in my absence) with fear and trembling work out your salvation"

You are not saved, you are redeemed.

I KNOW that I KNOW what I KNOW.

As you said, I do not know the disposition of souls, but neither do you. You can can not know what you think you know because you are not God.

Best of Luck
