The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

I don't think I've ever heard of them before. But what else is new.

Do not tempt me osagebowman!

Having helped them procure the loan and avoid having to close, this is the last season for the pool board (we swears, we swears).

Gandalf has a nuclear moment, too.

Or a Halloween moment.

Forget the proper terminology...

Just a group of white boys with a black sound. They were very successful in the mid 60s.

Good for you!

I went in there to start on my kitchen and Matthew waylaid me, asked me to read some Bronze Bow to him. It was a really intense part and his eyes were just glued to me while I was reading.

I love that.

Ah, good book! It's so wonderful that you read to your boys. My mother did - still does, with my brothers - and it inspired such a love of words in me...

Er, my sentences are backwards tonight because I'm trying to write a story in an archaic worse-than-Tolkien style, sorry.

Yep, I feel pretty lucky.

At least all my years of drama are paying off for something! LOL

I read to Joshua in the mornings...he's an early bird, so while Matthew is still asleep, Josh and I read a chapter or two. Little House in the Big Woods.

Then in the evening, I read to Matthew, who's a night owl. We're almost done with The Bronze Bow...then we'll start on one of the Hardy Boy's books Matthew got for Christmas.

Matthew is in his top bunk right now, reading Hero Tales Vol. 1 by Dave and Neta Jackson, a "Family treasury of true stories from the lives of Christian heros." They were donated to the church library in Steve's dad's name, when he died. They got all the volumes...so Matthew has a lot to read.

I have been applying to jobs, but the school districts are not hiring right now. There are going to be some job fairs coming up in March and April. I ~might~ be able to get a position out of one of them. My mother says why bother since no will hire me anyway. She may be right. Who wants to hire a pregnant teacher who is almost 7 months along (and yes, it is obvious at this point that I am expecting)?

I really need the position, so if I get hired, great! If not, then I will stay at home with the baby and Elf-boy. It's somewhat of a double-edged sword. (and, I am really NOT a great housekeeper... but I can cook.)

Another thing, if I do not get a position (I cannot really do all of this right now, because of heavy liftin and precarious placement of boxes and whatnot, but after the baby comes) I will be able to go through my teaching stuffs and either get rid of, or put in the attic all the older grade things until elf-boy is ready for them. The dining room and the garage are literally filled with boxes educational stuff. Need somewhere to put it all.

Wow. Good stuff. Bronze Bow is a good example of a book that's a good story, and interesting, and has all sorts of information you don't even know you're getting at the same time. Kinda like if there were vitamins in milkshakes.
