The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

In central Texas, I'd imagine that would draw a crowd when it pulled up to the front door!

Did Major Wes get a Hobbit Hole pocketknife? Does he have a wish list for his troops?

It's these cans! - That guy ~hates~ these cans!
They had some trouble.... That big claw tractor thingy broke down already trying to get that ramp set in place. They are not pleased.

LOL! The survivalists up in the woods here could use one of them!

Been hearing on the news that the first soldier from the Stryker Brigade was killed by a road side bomb in northern Iraq.
I haven't seen a comment here in two days from Steve nor have I gotten any email from him either. If he comes on line I would appreciate it if someone would ping me if my name isn't in the "to area" on his comment.
My stomach is tied in a knot here.

Understood. Prayers for you and Steve.

Wish I could say/do more than we're here and that you're in our prayers. But you definitely have that.

Yes, the knife he's referring to is the knife you sent me not too long ago. I included a bunch of tidbits and mailed the knife off two weeks ago yesterday in the Hobbit Hole's name.
I've known Celeste since Matthew and her son were in preschool together, years ago. She has frequently told me about her brother-in-law who would come and stay with her while fulfilling his Reserves requirements. I've known of him for many years, but he just recently got sent to Afghanistan.
So when I heard he'd gone to Afghanistan, I really wanted to get him a care package.
I intend to send him some more stuff beginning of next month. I'll ask about a "wish list" then.

Prayers Graybeard... no time to catch up on everything now... but prayers are on-going.
I fixed Steve up 2 boxes of goodies to mail this morning, but haven't had time to finish the other guy's boxes so haven't gone to the post office yet. They're gettin' donuts, honeybuns, pecan pies and candy.
I have faith that he'll be there to get 'em.

Your rocks look just lovely to me. I had a rock adventure this morning. Got called in to work... had another assignment dumped on me. And then, I was requested to go choose marble slabs to be used for new cosmotology tables in our cosmo department. Then, I had to draw up the plans for the tops and deliver them to the vendor.
*sigh*
I am not sure what I am going to do about work. Apparantly the concept of 24 hour days is just not good enough anymore. It's pretty bad for me right now. Could use prayers.

You have the problem all competent people have. People assign all the work to you!
Prayers for your strength!

We love our users, really we do...Actually, I made an instant friend last night on the help desk. A nurse from one of the psych units called with a routine problem. While I was fixing it, she mentioned, "you're lucky to just take phone calls. You don't want to come in to a psych unit." I mentioned I took a call there a couple of years ago, when a patient went ape, and smashed every PC, monitor, printer, fax, and phone in the unit.
"I was there that day!" she said. "I remember you. Wasn't that something? Wow, talk about a small world."
So we reminisced for a couple minutes while I finished resetting her passwords. It was definitely a pleasnt suprise for me.

Ok, I am fuming.
I get to school and there's a letter for me. From the official whoevers, saying that because I've only taken 6 credits of math there, and the other 11 credits at the community college, I can't get my math minor. Only I took 9 credits there. So I'm furious all through class. I went down to the registrar's office and point this out and the lady says no, one class doesn't count because it's only Math 180, and it has to be a 200 level course.
Now, I've been at my school for three years. I've had two advisors. I asked both advisors several times, will this math minor thing work, I want to get it, are you sure I don't have to take any more classes. They assured me... and now it's too late, I'm graduating in three months.
I'm going back Thursday to talk to the actual registrar. Oh, am I mad! I'll hand him his head on a platter if need be, but I want my minor!
This, 2J and Rosie, is on top of the fact that unless I get a letter from the school district saying I was a good little homeschooler, they won't let me graduate. I was done with high school 5 years ago, I have an Associates' degree... it makes me so mad...

We have to change our stupid passwords every month or so. Absent-minded hobbits like me can't keep track of 'em. Maybe I should write them down and keep 'em in my desk. :) I have signons and passwords for 28 different systems within the hospital, some of them rarely used. I keep them in an encrypted file within my Palm Pilot. No way would I trust my memory, and I'm not about to set a bad example (and violate corporate police) by keeping them on paper.
OTOH, executives get simple passwords that never expire. I see lots of passwords on stickies on monitors.
