The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

It's basically a "we're gonna talk" or more like "I'm gonna talk, you're gonna listen" meeting to set things straight.
He's been moody for days. Smart-mouthed his mother and was rude to his Grandmother when they visited the hospital. It's been building.
I won't have it.

Best thing about being a geek's kid is you get really cool toys. We always had computers around. Dad would bring them home from work once they got obsolete and let us use them during the day. We had computer games that had to be launched from DOS... I had my first PC when I was eleven. I think it had Win 3.11 but it got upgraded to 95 pretty quickly. Or it seems that way... must have been a couple years, though.

I can sympathize with Luke... I have to deal with the big 4-0 this year. Not sure yet how I feel about that.

PARTY!!!!
Every year! No matter how old you are!!! Do something fun EVERY year!! It's better than the alternative.
I will never forget my 40th birthday cause I did something I'd never done before. I got asked to officiate at a motocross race! Ya know, I don't do jap bikes... and never tried motocross. But, it was cool! And a pretty awesome remembrance for a 40th birthday!

I have noticed that after the "big 4-0," the rest come rather quickly.
Have fun, though.

We have four or five computers in running condition right now, and 2 or 3 more that are just shells... old boxes that got cannibalized during hardware upgrades. The oldest one still in running condition is a 80486 DX4/100 with a 800 MB hard drive, running Windows 3.1.
My first computer was a Sinclair ZX-81 that I bought with my high school graduation money in 1982.

Winders 3.x was an abomination before the Lord thy God. I'm pretty sure of this. Winders 98 was a compilation of bug fixes to Winders 95. :-)
Sure, I was a Mac Head from way early in the program, but I got better.
I was and continue to be, however, among the early fans of Whistler (Winders XP). This is very possibly the finest product that the lazy-M ranch (just a couple of miles away from my current location) has ever produced. They really got it right with this one.

Nah, you're not even middle aged yet! Wonder if it's time to reinterate the rule we established way back in thread III that no one is allowed to be called middle aged until 85? Someone here seems to be getting a bit lax about that one.

Pretty cool 40th, Kimberly.
I forgot what may have happened at mine, I may have had something to drink, though. Oh yeah, now I remember, my twin brother and me went to Key West for a few days and fished and drank. Took our wives with us, too.
One fish we caught was a 300 lb jewfish.

Windows 3.x just blew away version 2 though! And we won't talk about 1.0.
MS-DOS 5.0 still gets my vote as best MS product ever, though.
