The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Wonder if an SUV version is in the works? Yes, that would certainly be more... practical? :-)

You're going to Detroit for training, right?
How long of a drive is that?
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Sunspots. Funny thing is... around here there are actually people that *believe* me when I say that.
How did Rose's interview go?? Did that happen yet?
To: RosieCotton
Training... you could call it that, only I'm the one doing the training!
It's an install for a customer, and since I'm the resident expert in the one aspect of the technology, I get to go and tell them how to maintain what we're selling them.
They're claiming it's a 4.5 hour drive. Which means 5.5, since they drive 80 and I do 60... plus, being female, I have to stop every few hours.

Beside my desk, here at home, I have a 3ft wide built-in shelf unit that stretches from floor to ceiling. On those shelves, I see:
- XICS Between The Lines, XICS Level II class notes (several binders' worth);
- a box labeled Microsoft Mouse & EasyCAD2;
- dBase III Plus;
- Reflex
- ProSoft Fontasy;
- Two suede binders that came with my Kompak (now known as HewPaq) luggable;
- a SideKick manual;
- MS-DOS 3.3 user's guide and reference;
- Advanced MS-DOS;
- an XTree Pro manual;
- Programmer's Problem Solver For IBM PC, XT, and AT;
- Advanced C Programming On The IBM PC;
- C Programmer's Guide To Serial Communications;
- Turbo C and Stretching Turbo C;
- Microsoft Macro Assembler Bible, Zen of Assembly Language, and Zen of Code Optimization;
- Programming Windows 3.1 by Charles Petzold, and Windows 3.1: A Developer's Guide.
<chuckling> Jen, girlfriend, have you ever even seen Windows 3.1? What languages do you code?

But darlin' when it comes to 4x4 it isn't *about* "need". :-)Yes honey. You are so right. I have regretted that decision.
But, I was trying for the first time in years to be smart about a vehicle purchase. I traded in a 4x4 pickup and a sports car that both had so many miles on them and had been driven so hard that repairs were way more than they were worth. I had just sold 4 of my 6 motorcycles, another old pickup and a van. For some bizarre reason I was trying to consolidate my vehicle ownership into one *practical* vehicle. I am still regretting that choice.
But, I do have one of the hottest dadgummed street legal Harleys there is. :-) And a classic old 68 Impala. That is something.

LOL! Exactly. It was kinda funny, I hate to say...because I knew it didn't hurt him. He's just tired...gets really cranky and overly sensative in the evening.
Naw, that's Benny Hen. She seems better though and I wonder if perhaps she wasn't having a bit of a broody spell...where they think they can hatch out the eggs. She doesn't do it as bad as she used to.
Puffy is the one that doesn't lay an egg every day...I though she was sick, but apparently she just takes longer to process an egg! She'll lay one in the morning and not lay another one till the next day in the evening! Oh well, she lays great big old eggs, though...almost completely round and they are our only speckled eggs.

plus, being female, I have to stop every few hours.No no no no no... you do not. I have spent years proving men wrong on this. Don't go blowing it for the rest of us out here. Just because you have to stop, doesn't mean it's a female thing. I gots references to that effect.

How long do you have to be up there? A week or so?
I'm happy that we don't really have remote users where I am now...at the company where I worked before, about half the people were in offices around the country, with their own ISPs and such. And yet...they'd call me if anything didn't work. It was horribly frustrating. We still help people with e-mail access problems at home and such like, but it's very different.
None of which has much to do with your project...just reflecting again on how fortunate I am!

My back is killing me for some reason...I'm gonna finish up the kitchen then take a hot soak. I'll be back in a while.

MS-DOS 3.3 user's guide and reference; Bwaahahha... OMG I think I still have that one too. Yikes.
To: HairOfTheDog
You're allowed to hate it.
But I still saved it here.
I won't show it to ya or anything if you come to visit.

Maybe Puffy will lay more regularly when she's older?
Glad Benny is being better about sharing. ;-) Silly chicken...
