The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Why don't you go for a Precision? Do you not need that much power? Not use graphics at all?

Or knows better than to get in my way? ;-)
To: Wneighbor
I don't do graphics at all, no. No games, nothing but work, really, and school and writing and the occasional DVD. This laptop is basically just an upgrade from what I have now.

I like Dells...mine is an Inspiron 8100. Except for the one problem, it's been great. About three years old now, though. 8100s had just come out when I got it.
5100 is a lot lighter than mine, as I recall. Thinner. Right?

I just put in the paperwork for 22 new computers for my lab and office today. They told me that instead of having my lab on rotation of 8 new computers a year they wanted me to replace 'em all in this year's budget. Economy down? I just spent $154K for 22 new computers? And I have to justify office supplies!!!

Oops...*shamefaced* I thought you asked her why she didn't go for a Precious! I was trying to figure out how graphics fit into that picture...power, yes...graphics...?

Did you miss a precious? I didn't even see it. Trying to get the ONE instructor who works tonight to talk to me! Tell ya why in a minute.

*I* got the precious...but Jen didn't. So...somehow my mind went there.
I'm so ashamed!
To: RosieCotton
I see....
I'm back. It's my night to close... and there is only one class meeting tonight. All others are finished for the quarter. So, I had to track down that instructor and try to find out if maybe he would finish early.... NOPE... I will be sitting here alone just waiting to turn off lights and check doors till 9:30!!!
I will begin reading textbooks for entertainment shortly.

Why don't they just have the last person to finish close up?
Let me guess...because that would actually make SENSE?
Dictionaries can be very entertaining in a pinch...
And you have us! We're entertaining, no?
To: Wneighbor
See, that's why you should follow Jen's Law #3 - "Always have a novel in your possession. You never know when boredom might attack."

I forgot to bring in Princess Bride to read during lunch. :( I'll just have to stay up late tonight in order to make up for it...
There's really no hurry...but it's fun reading!

I had a 5100 - 2 laptops ago. The last one was the 8100. I am so glad I have this new Precision. Rose recommended it to me when I was looking for the new one! -- It is totally awesome for my CADD stuff. I would get really irritated with those others cause they were so freakin' slow on CADD drawings. This one I have now just screams.

Yeah, if I was doing high-intensity graphics... but I'm not. Actually, the laptop I have right now is almost sufficient for my needs, so the new one should give me several good years.

Uh.. actually it wouldn't make sense for the last person to close in these cases. Only permanent employees have keys to the building. The remaining instructor is an adjunct and as such doesn't have access to all the building.
And with all this stuff going on with that strange student - I am VEY glad that building keys aren't given out very easily! Right now I have the security system watching the only unlocked entrance. I know who's coming in... and that they're going to that one class.
