While we not as familiar with the far north as we are with other areas, we do have some time to do some scouting, couple of places do come to mind and we can visit about it.

If that was the case, though, why would Gimli have mistaken it for cram?

I just listened to "Where there's a whip" to purge my mind of the BOBB. ;-)

"Where There's a Whip" and the other two goblin songs ("Down, Down to Goblintown" and "Fifteen Birds in Five Fir Trees") are my favorites from the two Rankin-Bass cartoons. I also like the song the elves are singing when the Dwarves reach Rivendell ("Oh where are you going/with beards all a wagging?/No knowing, no knowing/What brings Mr. Baggins. . .") and the barrel song when the elves roll the barrels into the Forest River ("Down the dark swift stream you roll. . .").

That had to be the lamest sneak of all time. Missed by two posts -- and the two were "real" posts!

Sigh... don't I wish... I don't even like puppy-dog eyes, and I like his!

Oh well. He's probably not much of a geek, huh?

I do like them singing "Crack the Bottles". That 'Greatest Adventure' song was lousy, though, as was the infamous 'Frodoooo... of the Niiiine Fingers... and the Ring of Dooo-OOO-oom...'

I meant taken by Eowyn. ;-)

And Jen, too, apparently...

I'm starting to think y'all conspired to clone Eowyn or something. . . :)

We'd be better off cloning Faramir...

Excellent and succinct review.

One of the BEST parts imo (which ought to be expected, even) is when the child Jesus fell...I just burst into tears. I knew at the time at what level that was effecting me, though...

:-)

Yes, cloning Eowyn won't help matters.

Hmm... cloning means multiple copies. I'd better not go there, though I really was thinking that means one to take out the trash and one to read poetry...

LOL! Yes, I bet it does strike mothers differently than jaded middle-aged men! Those breaks were necessary, the pace would just have gotten out of hand without them. The counter-balance to the obvious mother/child play at that point was the shot of Satan with the anti-Christ in his/her/its (Satan was uniquely and perfectly, in my view, androgynous) arms.

It's like a flat cornbread.

True--the leaf does have a cornbread kind of crumbly texture. Not as tasty, though. It's like really dry cornbread without anything to drink with it.

Good description. I haven't seen it yet, but just from your description it gives me a strong sense of it.

Oh, was the ugly baby-thing supposed to be the Antichrist? I was just weirded out by that.

Gibson made a very good choice with his portrayal of Satan.

I do like them singing "Crack the Bottles".

Oh, yeah, that one, too :)

Chip the glasses, crack the plates

That's what Bilbo Baggins hates!

That 'Greatest Adventure' song was lousy, though, as was the infamous 'Frodoooo... of the Niiiine Fingers... and the Ring of Dooo-OOO-oom...'

Agreed. Glenn Yarborough's vibrato sounds like a human goat :)

Brings to mind these lyrics...

Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will one day walk on water?
Did you know
That your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?
Did you know
That your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you’ve delivered
Will soon deliver you

Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?
Did you know
That your baby boy will calm a storm with his hand?
Did you know
That your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
And when you kiss your little boy
You’ve kissed the face of God

Mary, did you know?
The blind will see
The deaf will hear
And the dead will live again
The lame will leap
The dumb will speak
The praises of the lamb

Mary, did you know
That your baby boy is lord of all creation?
Did you know
That your baby boy will one day rules the nations?
Did you know
That your baby boy is heaven’s perfect lamb?
This sleeping child you’re holding
Is the great I Am

That's the way a lot of people are interpreting it.

Apparently that wasn't specifically what Mel Gibson had in mind, though. From an interview:

But what about the ugly baby? "Again," said Gibson, "it's evil distorting what's good. What is more tender and beautiful than a mother and a child? So the Devil takes that and distorts it just a little bit. Instead of a normal mother and child you have an androgynous figure holding a 40-year-old 'baby' with hair on his back. It is weird, it is shocking, it's almost too much-just like turning Jesus over to continue scourging him on his chest is shocking and almost too much, which is the exact moment when this appearance of the Devil and the baby takes place."
