The Hobbit Hole V - Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
ecurbh

Posted on 12/11/2003 2:07:57 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

In fact we usually have a Santa-fire on Christmas Eve in case anyone does try to come down the fireplace...

Guffaw....oh like Santa doesn't know how to get past fireplaces...BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

The 8" flue in my chimney would preclude that. Santa has ways around all of it!

My little brother believes in Santa because he goes to school. The rest of us tell him every year that Santa does not bring toys to our house, and he still hopes...

I always pretended there was an Easter Bunny with Matthew but I didn't really enjoy it. Finally, a couple of years ago, he walked in and found me setting up his basket the night before. I just looked at him and said "Well, now ya know." He laughed and said "Oh, I don't care...just so long as I get some candy!"

He does believe in Santa though, which I find rather hysterical, because we don't put a lot of emphasis on it. Some time in the days before Christmas, he was lying in bed with me watching the news and it showed (I think) the secretary of transportation giving Santa permission to fly through our air space. I turned to Matthew and said "See, we're under such tight security that even Santa has to have clearance to fly over."

He pondered this for a few minutes and then said in all seriousness..."That's just one more reason why I know he's real."

It was all I could do not to just roar!

The only imaginary critter my parents "did" was the Tooth Fairy, only we never actually believed in her either. They used to offer us an extra buck if we caught them leaving the money, though.

ROFLOL!!! What an excellent idea!!

I'm really surprised that Matthew really believes in Santa...he's so rational and logical. There's not a lot of pretense about him in general.

So I kinda want him to believe it Santa for a while...if that makes sense.

We never did the Easter Bunny. Boys always get baskets, but we never let them think the Bunny brought them.

At least there's some basis for the concept of Santa.

Of course he gets toys! Only they say "from Mom and Dad".

We celebrate St. Nicholas Day, too, so having Santa Clause woulda been a bit confusing...

My parents always said the Christ Child brought the gifts.

We did have the Tooth Fairy, but I knew it was Mom. She would write little notes to me in teeny tiny letters to leave with the quarter, and usually I'd try to write back. Even though I knew it wasn't really a fairy, it was a good game...

We always had a Yule log that we burned Christmas eve, always decorated up with pine cones and ribbons... had to burn it late and make it a big one so it would burn through till morning... and it did cause me some concern growing up... the plot loophole between the traditional yule log and Santa.

LOL We don't even have a chimney! The boys ask me "How does Santa get in our house?" I said "How should I know?"

ROFLOL!

I don't have all the answers. Best they learn that at an early age.

Sorry, didn't mean that to sound condescending.

My mother said I was free to stop believing in Santa Claus whenever I was too old to get the presents. I still believe.

Well, this year, I think we're backing away from the Easter bunny. The whole concept has been uncomfortable to me for a long time and has only gotten worse over the last few years.

This year, I take a stand. Anything that doesn't bring glory to the Savior is out.

LOL

You know, my daughter Rachel believed until she was 12. It was quite a sad breakdown of reality for her. Not the Santa part, but that I had lied to her. She told me she only believed that long because I told her so, and I wouldn't lie to her. I felt really awful. Why did I lie to her about it when she asked me? I tippy toe around the question since.

2 Brooms

Two brooms were hanging in the closet and after a
while they got to know each other so well, they
decided to get married.

One broom was, of course, the bride broom. The other
the groom broom.

The bride broom looked very beautiful in her white
dress. The groom broom was handsome and suave in his
tuxedo.

The wedding was lovely. After the wedding, at the
wedding dinner, the bride-broom leaned over and said
to the groom-broom "I think I am going to have a
little whisk broom!!!"

"IMPOSSIBLE !!" said the groom broom.
