Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Congratulations! Are you going home to visit sometime soon, then?
To: trini
What color is it?
Next they'll tell me pink slips aren't pink.

I could always travel within the continental US, but if I left the US I couldn't come back for ten years which would have been a problem ;-) Now I am going home at the beginning of March. I finally get to see the only house I've known since I can remember myself. Also, I had to miss my Dad's funeral because I couldn't travel so now I can visit the spot where they scattered his ashes. And, I get to see my grandparents and everyone else I haven't seen for 8 years. AND I get to eat all the good food I haven't had for 8 years. I'm excited, can ya tell?!!!!
To: HairOfTheDog
Heh. No real color, looks kind of like a driver's license actually. Maybe a tinge of peach like the $20 bill.
To: trini
I'm excited for you! Eight years is a long time to go without seeing the places and people you love. I'm sure you'll be counting the hours!
To: trini
Oh, I see! Wow, the process is complicated, huh? You've been here eight years? Could you apply for citizenship if you wanted it, or does the clock start now?

I gotta wait five years before I apply for citizenship. However, I may be lucky to have got my green card this year because in 4 years there will be another election, so they will be pushing citizenships through faster in order to get more voters, so maybe in the next 4 years I'll apply. Citizenship is relatively easy to get once you're a resident though.

I am glad you will get to go now trini!

Wow! What an excellent site! Thank you!
I downloaded this small math program for Joshua and found it drills Matthew as well on his multiplication and division. It can be made as hard or as easy as you like...Joshua is doing the 4+3= type problems...
It's shareware, but I can't figure out how to register it! And it just says "unregistered" and works just fine.

I am. My husband is trying to convince me to wait until summer. Pfft!
To: HairOfTheDog
So am I. I already told my mom, bring lots of tissues, I'm gonna cry like a baby!
To: trini
Ah, five years... bet you could ace the citizenship test now, though! Well, good luck.... perhaps in five years we'll all come back to Florida and celebrate with you.
Election in four years... I'm already getting nervous about that. My family has a pact that if Hillary is ever elected we leave the country. Right now I'm trying to convince them that New Zealand is a good country for exile.

Citizenship is relatively easy to get once you're a resident though. And a relatively unknown process to us! I think it is good for us to hear all that you do have to go through as it happens... I helped a few clients through it when I was working with Vietnamese Refugees, but I have forgotten. I vaguely remember the test when they brought it back, and everyone here would find it interesting I think! Let us know!
To: JenB
We don't have a pact to leave the country, but we have discussed forming a reclusive militia group in Montana!
To: JenB
My boss is from NY...he HATES Hillary - was really disgusted when she was elected there. He says he'll leave the country, too, if she becomes president.
Sounds like a good idea to me...though politically speaking, I don't know that there ARE any better places.
To: HairOfTheDog
We could join the libertarians moving to NH...
Montana sounds nice, though!
Or we could just all move onto g'nad's homestead...
To: HairOfTheDog
When my husband took the test a few years ago, it was interesting to me too. Made me want to learn more American history. We didn't get that in school in Trinidad.
To: RosieCotton
If we go anywhere in the country, we could be hunted down... our thinking is, call it a four-year vacation.
Bet I could convince them on New Zealand. Mom and Dad love New Zealand wines... we're all fond of the outdoors.... better than Mexico, because we know the language already.
