The Hobbit Hole V - Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
ecurbh

Posted on 12/11/2003 2:07:57 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

I have been told by some the photos to follow are very inappropriate. But, these were our wedding cakes. For our wedding picnic by the lake. I loved them!

Brides cake was little bride and groom sailing in a swan on a little stream.... think Galadriel and Celeborn. :-) That's what I thought of.

Groom's cake was water slides and tubin' on a river. The tan sides of that cake and the tower to the water slide were done with brown sugar pressed into the frosting so it looked really like sand! :-)

They fit us and our wedding anyway.

Oh, and I forgot.... our last name initial was an "S" so the shape of the cakes was that.

I don't get it... what would be inappropriate about those photos?

LOL!!! I got a pretty uptight family. Those were not "proper" wedding cakes!

But, they weren't the only thing about that wedding or my life that got that criticism. hehehe

While waiting for the radios to arrive, I started shopping for EMT shears. I found one large supplier that has them for $2.95 each. An email to them said we can have them for $2.20 each, for our troops.

I'm going to order one, plus a few other items, for evaluation. If these look good (they're all made in Pakistan except for the more expensive German ones), I'd order about 50. Future knife shipments would include snips, too. I'd also send out bunches to you folks making up care packages, to include with goodies for our existing troop needs.

So how do you folks feel about including EMT shears in our packages? Oh, and the hot weather will start in Iraq in a few months. Time to think of sunscreen, lip balm, and solar showers, again.

Here's our "official" wedding photo too. Only Myranda and Aunt Cheryl wanted one of these. Dennis' parents loved it though!

Wow! Thanks Jen. I debated about whether to post 'em or not I've gotten so much grief over them for the last 10 years!

Well, Dennis and I loved them. Our wedding was by the lake on a warm day and we'd made sure to tell people who wanted to bring swimwear so they could swim. The cakes just seemed to fit us to a T! And as you can see, even back then I was putting LOTR influences into my life. Dennis was a Tolkien fan as well, though I had to be the one to point out the swans on the stream with the bride and groom being like Galadriel and Celeborn.

Don't sell your "groceries" short. They're an instantly-recognizable form of "I love you guys". They're something that brings an instant smile, and thoughts of home and better times. You can just include the shears with your edible goodies.

Exactly! You know the best report that I've heard about the food though was when Steve emailed me about being in the hospital and needing food just when the package I sent arrived! That was PERFECT!!!

Does he show up in 'Fire' as Pham Nuwen?

Hey there... just checking in to let you all know that I'm still around.

This Jury duty thing has totally thrown my schedule to the wind. My attendance record for the rest of the week and next week will be kinda spotty.

Curiouser yet... today I was actually seated as a juror on a trial that starts tomorrow. I will respect the wishes of the court and won't discuss it here until we are released to do so. But my fear of getting placed in some lame case were not realized. This case promises to be very interesting. It is a major felony level trial in the superior court. It will at least be interesting...

The process itself has been very interesting so far. Having not been picked for a jury before has me watching the process as much as the content. The whole thiing really fascinates me.

Later,
