The Hobbit Hole V - Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
ecurbh

Posted on 12/11/2003 2:07:57 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Jess is the exact same way about her recently deceased Grandma. She had pretty much raised Jess since she was about 4 years old, so they had a very strong bond.

Jess'll catch herself sometimes saying, "Now what would Gramma do in this situation?"

Ahhh..I bet it is very quiet out there, eh?

Several years ago, my friend took me out to hunt deer..and I was in a tree stand. Nothing out there but peace..and several noisy squirrels, but it started to lightly snow. It was just beautiful.

It's DISCO and we all know what disco does!

~Pretends she knows, so as to not appear to be out of it...~

I just don't feel like breaking out and shimmying when I'm worshiping...

Heh.... that is the best part of the Baptist services I went to on Sundays during my Mom's Jazz festivals.... Walked into church and they hand you a fan to cool yourself with! In soggy Washington.... Made sense when they danced in the aisles! That's fun stuff for an emotionally constipated Lutheran!

We found this house we're in now the day it went on the market

When SSQ and I were in the market for our first home, we knew we wanted a 3 bedroom. We had Paul and David, and we knew we'd have more, so even though the Realtor kept urging us to buy a 2 BR so we could 'buy up' later, we resisted. I knew what we could afford cause I'd been in the mortgage bidness when we were in FL, so I'd check out the newspaper 'for sale by owner' houses as well. We saw one advertised, and called the folks. We told them we'd drive by, and if it looked like something we liked, we'd call them back. We drove by and SSQ said "We gotta buy that house"! We called them and went right by. We found out from the neighbors later that it had been on the market with Realtors for almost 3 yrs! It was the decorating that turned people off, I'm sure. The LR had hot pink/cherry red shag carpet and cherry red satin draperies. The furniture was green brocade with plastic coverings and there was a plastic mat that went across the floor so that your shoes never touched the carpet. The kitchen cabinets were DARK stained birch, the walls were puce green, avocado appliances, and the floor was black vinyl with a green and gold design. Nasty, it was.

My very first thought on entering the house, and seeing the 6' cased opening into the LR from the hall foyer was "That opening will look GREAT draped with greenery at Christmas!" And it did!

We lived in that house for 6 - 1/2 yrs. and re-did every single room; painting, wallpaper, ripping up that crappy carpet and finding gorgeous hardwood floors underneath it. The Fall of 1987 we contracted to have a gorgeious big deck put on the back and new cabinets in the kitchen. The deck was almost finished, and the cabinets and new appliances were ordered when SSQ came home and said he had a job opportunity here in MA. Oh well. It got to enjoy my new deck about 2 weeks before the winter got too cold, and my new kitchen was installed 3 weeks before Clare was born, and we left for MA 2 weeks after that!

We all gotta be rockin' in the aisles. They played "We are Family" this last Sunday and I nearly barfed.

You're kidding. You've got to be. Good lord in heaven, who thought that was appropriate?

Oh, dear, it's my stodgy Presbyterian complex again... last Presby church we went to did some clapping, swaying in the aisles, praise band sort of stuff. That's fine, I just don't really like it. But we never sang anything that... far out there.

Jess'll catch herself sometimes saying, "Now what would Gramma do in this situation?"

LOL!!! I am so glad to find someone else who does this!!! After growing up with Grama I usually know the answer to that question right off the top of my head. But, it's nice to think it anyway!

Good post...thanks. Right now...I almost think all of us are noticing these anniversaries, but at the same time, if you bring them up...it's awkward. Will be for awhile, I suppose.

Well...I'm bakin' peanut butter cookies for tomorrow. Incidentally, they were her favorite kind...and one of the first things I remember "helping" make, when I was really little. (Causing more trouble than anything else, I think! She let me do the criss-crosses with a fork.

Very pretty. I hadn't realized you had a pond...looks like a good sized patch o' land!

I can't see...is Missouri bumpy or fairly flat?

My little brother died thirteen years ago this February. We hardly ever talk about him, I think because I was so young, and my sibs barely remember him, but I can tell my mom still thinks of him.

I guess it's easier sometimes to not talk about things like that. At least we know we'll my brother again - like you'll see your mom. And that is a comforting thought.

We're such good Hobbitses! (And dwarves and elves and Gondorians and such...) Almost never have posts pulled...except our own. ;-)

May also explain why we were forced so suddenly to evacuate the last Hole, just when we were finally getting settled.

Heh..... yeah - there was only one day we had a lot of abuse reports.... and that was the day Jim asked us.

Interesting and helpful to know that big threads are only really a problem if the Management has to clean them.
