The Hobbit Hole V - Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
ecurbh

Posted on 12/11/2003 2:07:57 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Heh...I made sure I went out far enough on the deck so you couldn't see the refrigerator we just put out there. B-i-l got a new one, we bought their old one and switched 'em out today.

I know the feeling, but not how to fix it. Some of my brothers are very good about helping...others...well, I've mentioned before the time we were all carpooling out to the house at Christmas a few years back, and *I* scraped off my car and got it all warmed up, drove them all out to the house, carried things in, etc., and then when we went to go, I asked one of the brothers with me if he'd be willing to run and start the car - and he just BLEW UP and started listing off everything I had ever asked him to do over the course of the past year and how I never thought of his feelings or anything. I was shocked...not to mention furious.

At this point, he's better some of the time, but still doesn't always "get it". He was one of the ones who went on that long trip yesterday (nearly three hours down and back), and I'd hoped he'd share the driving, but he didn't. The girl who we gave the ride to insisted on our taking some cash, which I used for my lunch and Bilbo's, since he doesn't have a job or any money, and then for gas. When we were almost home, we stopped quickly at a McDs (yes, they're evil, I know) for drinks at the drive through, and he asked why he hadn't gotten any of the money. I didn't let him have it, but considering I had to get out and pump gas in the freeeeeezing cold and had also just finished asking AGAIN if he'd drive for awhile and been given a "only if I HAFTA" kinda answer, I was tempted to.

But I guess I can be pretty self-centered, too, at times...so I probably deserve that.

I like that idea. PE and I aren't even close to being in the position to buy acreage, but we have talked about it, and what kind of house we might build on the land.

To be honest, I don't like the idea of building. Yeah, you can get something the way you like it...but I've heard an awful lot of nightmares about going overbudget and overtime...plus I kinda hate to build yet another house when there are so many up for sale.

But I'm not sure I'd buy one in Vermont, anyway, if I did have enough to buy one. I'd want something rural and somewhere with four seasons...but might not stay up here for the long haul. It's not exactly something I have any right to think about right now anyhow! ;-) But I can dream!

Bah, that's nothing. Come up here, have some real weather.

Gonna be a cold one tonight. At least it's warming up after that!

But we aren't getting snow and ice. I'm happy about that.

Time to go gas up the car and get groceries...

Hey! That is excellent!!! Tell D I am very proud of him. I was like him, didn't start training till I was in high school. I qualified in 100 breaststroke only though I competed in free, back and the medley relay a lot also. He done good! Wish I could be a that regional meet - but I'm thinking that would be impossible.

I'm fixin' to be out of Valley Mills in a few minutes. Just woke up from a nap. Cheryl is still napping and Lynn is back up at the hospital with his mom. I am going to stop and see her in the hospital on my way back home. Talk to ya when I get there. May call ya from the road.

"Let him have it" meaning a lecture, not the money.

I often wish I wasn't such a grouch with my family...I hate being that way, but I guess being the oldest sister I can't help it sometimes. Sigh...but it does make me wonder how I'd handle my own kids if'n I ever had any. Patience is a virtue, but not my strong suit.

We're getting 3-5 inches of snow, and then it's going to freezing rain, and that will continue all day tomorrow. I think I'm going to have to spend the day at the office, rather than the client site, but I'd better clear that with Dad.

Or I could take a sick day since I'm feeling really lousy, but then I wouldn't get paid.

Had a bit of sun earlier so we cleared the ice off the deck and steps, Samantha was appreciative, really felt sorry for her earlier, with each blade of grass in ice she had a heck of a time getting around.

OT: good plan, should be better then, glad you're acclimating to cooler temps.

2jm: glad Joshua wasn't hurt, that was a bit close for comfort.

If it's reallly bad, I'd say catch a ride with Dad, if you HAVE to go. But on total ice, there's nothing you can do to completely control the car - except maybe studded tires. It's not worth a day's pay to go out in that.

Though it IS a drag not getting paid for sick time and all that.

OK...NOW I'm going for groceries...

I can't get a ride with Dad, he goes to a different client site on Mondays... I should be able to make it to the office, though, that's three miles away.
