The Hobbit Hole V - Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
ecurbh

Posted on 12/11/2003 2:07:57 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

heh heh heh... you done this before, ain't yuh?...

LOL! No, can't say as I have, but I can understand the frustration! We live in the 'burbs' and folks get electric fences for their dogs. We have a couple of dogs next door that are well trained. They bark at folks, but don't go out of their yards when you walk by their house. The neighbors on the other side have a big old German Shepherd, and they don't have a fence, but Guiness is VERY well trained and never comes in our yard unless either of his owners have come over first, then he'll wander over with them. We haven't had any unruly dogs here, but we gots an air-rifle if'n we DO get one!

The most annoying thing we've had is one of the neighbor cats. He used to lurk under our deck, and scare the bunnies away. We LIKE the bunnies; they keep the weeds down! We were thinking we might zap him with the paintball gun next time we see him, but he hasn't been under the deck in quite a while. He'll loll in our front yard sometimes, though, just to pi$$ off the neighbors' dogs who don't come out of their yard, but sit at the fence line and bark!

a lite dustin' of snow... on top of 1/4" - 1/2" of ice...

That can be treacherous!

Dang! I'll be gone til 9 or so, but I guess the major awards won't be given until later in the show anyway! I'll have to catch the Guild's "Live Thread" to see what hideous clothes the actors are wearing tonight!

Girls can't wear snowpants to church.

Sure they can, but if they don't want to, they can wear thick wool tights instead!!

A quick prayer for safety would be appreciated!

Well...I'm a little late, but maybe God'll accept my prayer for ya anyway?

Just started the car in preparation for going to church myself...it was NOT happy about starting today. Still making some ugly noises, but hopefully it'll smooth out after it warms up a bit.

Looked at our forecast. We're supposed to get snow starting tomorrow night, through Tuesday and into Wednesday. Looks like a trip today to the grocery store for eggses, and other supplies might be necessary, as well as a fill up for the van. I don't like for it to get less than half full in the winter; condensation in the tank, you know.

Forecast doesn't mention ice, though, so I hope that holds. Don't minds snow, don't likes ice!

Pretty! But does look like there's some pretty heavy accumulation on those trees. Nice view you have!

I have close neighbors. Sigh. Someday I'm going to move out of town, but it's gotten so land here is pretty expensive, and the houses built on bigger plots tend to be fancy in and of themselves. I love my little house...just wish it sat on a couple of acres with some trees!

Woo hoo! Thanks for the funkle save!! How are the sibs? Told SSQ we need to go up there for a visit sometime and play some music with y'all. It's gonna have to wait until LATE spring, though! I ain't coming up there in the dead of winter!

Heh...I'll have to bring you to church up here someday...

Though people usually TRY to dress up...but you do see a fair number of women in dresses with hugh snow boots and leggings underneath. I'm just wearing socks and boots over hose, which isn't exactly fashionable, but a lot warmer - and I don't have to walk carefully, trying to avoid getting snow in my shoes.

Welp..I am back. Got out on the road, called my friend, and he said church was cancelled.

Oops...read before posting, right? Oh well...maybe my prayers helped get you home safe? ;-)

You know, it used to be that folks didn't like others building smaller houses in amongst their 'MacMansions", but anymore, home appraisals don't seem to take a hit because of the mix of houses. So go ahead and get some land and build you a little house right smack dab in the middle of an acre or two! My sister would love to get about 20 acres and build right in the middle because she says she hates people! LOL! I told her it was because of her previous line of work. She was a cop, then a detective, then worked for the DA in her town. She wasn't exactly dealing with the cream of society, ya know what I mean?

Someday, maybe. Land ain't cheap!

I like my neighbors, actually...just wish I had more privacy and room for a big garden yard for dogs and maybe a little walking trail or something. If I had even a couple of acres, I could do something like that.

It's in the back of my mind for now. Something to save for, I guess!

Five more minutes 'til I gotta go. Going to pick up Bilbo for church. He was planning to WALK. Windchills of -20 to -30, and he had to be persuaded to let me pick him up!

Hopefully the car is warm enough that it'll handle OK now.

I like that idea. PE and I aren't even close to being in the position to buy acreage, but we have talked about it, and what kind of house we might build on the land.

Hmm, ever thought about straw-bale houses?
