Michael Ironside is a fun actor to watch. He's at his best playing a very intense, focused, goal-driven, my-way-or-no-f***ing-way kind of guy--without respect to the motive. He's a great good antihero, and he's a great villain.

When I first tried my hand at writing, I had him in mind when I came up with a Marine special operations unit commander.

Yeap, Michael Ironside is a good actor and does play an excellent villain, anything from his role in Scanners, to Total Recall to his voice acting in Heavymetal 2000. (I would tell you my favorite Michael Ironside quote from that adult cartoon movie, but it might get me banned. ;D)

Another hint that the changes weren't due to a "PC" motive is the fact that there are no significant black roles in the new BG, despite the fact that there were at least three in the old one. That's not something that "PC" writers would do.

Wasn't the 2nd in command of the original BSG a black guy? Where as the people in charge now seem to be all old white men. Even Edward James Olmos doesn't appear to be playing a hispanic character (His son is also lilly white also) The only blacks I've seen was the one who swore in the president and one that does nothing but hand the captain messages.

I really liked him in "Top Gun," too. Doesn't like excuses, just seeks to make good fighter pilots.

BTW, another actor I liked in "Top Gun" was Val Kilmer. In 1985, he played a very flip, irreverent college kid in "Real Genius," and did a good job. He did equally well as a 100%-by-the-book fighter pilot in "Top Gun." (The scenes where he says "Maverick, you are UNSAFE!" and "Maverick, you're dangerous--and foolish" reminded me of my squadron's safety officer--VERY well done.) That one guy could convincingly play two very different roles like that impressed me.

He only has two rules. Everyone fights. No one quits. If you don't do your job, he'll kill you himself. Welcome to the Roughnecks.

Yes. Good character, too. Reminds me of every good executive officer I've served under.

Watch out for those tongue kisses!

BTW, she was the one that "ate" the mouse, IIRC.

My first effort at writing was well before that movie came out. It was the standard tale of a special ops guy who went on a mission that got betrayed and has come back from the dead to get even with the villain, who (as always) has an army of faceless assassins ready to do his every bidding.

I total agree Mr. Ironside is a very talented actor. And 'Real Genius' is such a underrated movie. It is actually pretty good,
