It's as if the cylon war was many years ago, much more than just 40.

I have to disagree. Take a look at the mess we've got here and now. The sheer numbers of people who have forgotten 9/11.

Oh, they remember the day, but they've conveniently forgotten the sheer horror; the raw pain and the lessons we should have learned from that day. And we're only two years removed.

Imagine what it'll look and sound like in another 35 years.

This is no different. The people; sheep if you will, have forgotten the horrors of war. For the most part, they've forgotten that they were almost wiped out. They've become oblivious to the danger ahead.

There are many in America today who are wearing those same rose-colored glasses.

The parallels are indeed eerie.

Nope. It was subtle, and reinforced the menace of the chick.

On the contrary...as it came early on, I think it communicated the character of the Cylons perfectly. The oft alluded to parallels with 911 weren't lost on this viewer.

I watched for a few minutes until I saw they had Starbuck as a Woman.

I refuse to watch it because of this.

It's not a crime to look at women. Really, it's okay.

A truly Hitchcockian moment - a good director capitalizes on the viewer's imagination. For all we know, the Cylon could have dumped a taco on the baby's new sweater.

I agree with you Ben...it was over the top. But that was the point. If I had my druthers, we'd have a public access archive of all the footage shot at the WTC just to remind us of what our enemies are capable of perpetrating. Unfortunately, you'd have to get the cooperation of those that did the filming, and that just wouldn't suit their philosophical sensibilities.

Oh what the heck, ruinista! In the future, the heroes that save the day are all wearing stretchy polyester uniforms and funny hats. Why do you think the deep space communications between the battlestar and the rest of the fleet sounds just like a drive up window?

That's all I will say.

As emotion-driven as our body-politic is these days, I think it's good to get a reminder of just what is possible once an adversary has successfully stripped you of your humanity in their minds. Obviously Cylons are not suppose to be human, but our current adversaries have no more regard for us than that fictional race did.

Baltar is somehow of duped into giving the Cylon "female" access to the defense systems just for a roll in the hay? Kinda weak IMHO.

That's not the impression I got. They mentioned that she actually contributed a lot of the program code for the system, as if she were a consultant. And they gave the impression that Baltar was taking credit for her brilliant work. I think that the scenario is that Baltar thought he was taking advantage of her technical expertise, but she was actually taking advantage of him. And he had naively given her access to the defense network so that she could work on it as his "apprentice". The "roll(s) in the hay" was just further playing to his ego and roping him into a false sense of security, making him think that he was the "user", not the "used".

Let me guess, stupid/weak/evil white men vs. intelligent, strong, ass-kicking chicks. Wow what a new concept in todays entertainment world.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that your presumptions are infallible.

One of the women almost gets an entire ship full of people killed (against the advice of a "white man", and saved only by another "white man"), and the two strongest characters are both "white men".

(Note before someone objects: Hispanics are officially classified as "white".)

Isn't this show, like 40 years later? Isn't the new Starbuck actually a different person with the same call name?

As in the original, there was a prior war between the humans and Cylons. Galactica fought that war with the other battlestars in the fleets and the war ended, with a shakey truce between the two.

The main spine of the plot is the same as the original: Cylons engage a sneak attack after 20+ years of being gone and the humans have become over-confident, which is their undoing.
