The first 2 segments are just SCREAMING at hints towards 911. I highly suggest folks watch it.

I liked it. It had a gritty, documentary feel and a more-or-less realistic setting. The characters live in houses (not domes) and wear suits and ties (not unisex jumpsuits) and most of the military personnel are shown doing realistic military things — swabbing decks, damage control work, dealing with meaningless, idiotic paperwork — instead of lounging around the ship’s cocktail bar like they do in some sci-fi TV shows I could mention.

(The announcements on the 1MC — the Galactica’s PA system — also caused a chuckle. “Attention all hands. EVA work in progress on the hull. Please do not radiate electronic equipment”, etc. If I had I dime for every time that “do not radiate” word was passed on the 'PRISE...).

The acting was also quite good by TV standards, and I especially enjoyed the cinematography — lots of SteadiCam work on the character side and the power-zoom “news camera” style special effects shots gave the show a fresh, dramatic sense of realism. The lady Cylon was portrayed with both pathos and menace, and I even liked the chick Starbuck.

So far, I like this new Galactica. Let’s see what develops tonight.

I agree. Not only that, what would be the point of doing a remake that's EXACTLY like the original? If that's what you want just SHOW/WATCH the original. Those of us who like new takes on an old theme (open mindedness) will give it a chance.

I have no doubt that it was probably a good show, however I refuse to support anything that bases it's casting decisions on PC'dness. And the people that do will ultimately give rise to other remakes based on PC'dness.

Next up Multicultural Gilligans Island (Don't laugh the idiot director that wrote the first one is/was in the process of doing just this). It's not a male/female/black/white issue for me, it's a "PC sucks" sorta thing.

Maybe it's me, but I don't see a problem with the gender changes they did.

The original Starbuck was someone who one wouldn't want their kids to be around, didn't care for authority and was highly needed in this war because of his piloting skills.

The new Starbuck's first scene, she goats her XO into losing a poker game and throwing a table by teasing him about his marriage problems (and gets thrown in the brig for knocking him on his arse), STILL smokes cigars, and is a great and needed pilot (She saved the Galactica from three nukes). Edward James Olmos did a great job in creating a character who never forgets his losses and humanity's mistakes in the past that caused those losses. "I won't forget how many lives were lost on this ship because we wanted to make things 'A little easier.'(When objecting to having networked computers onboard to a politician)"

THere were a lot of great lines and twists in this. Boomer's co-pilot giving up his seat so a top scientist could survive nuclear fallout and help fight the Cylons -a scientist who was directly responsible for the attack's success.

"You'd better leave. I suddenly have another urge to strike a superior a$$hole."

I really don't think they over"PC"d this. Quite a few smoking scenes. The reality of warfare on a ship (Closing a hatch to save the ship -and killing 87 people) hit me quite hard.

It's not often I fall asleep at a movie.
This turkey had all the hallmarks of being put together by Hollywood perverts.

Meanwhile satisfying entertainment like Threat Matrix is threatend with cancellation. Go figure.

The reality of warfare on a ship (Closing a hatch to save the ship -and killing 87 people) hit me quite hard.

I was surprised no one mentioned this - Archer or Janeway would have never made that kind of decision. Kirk would have made it without batting an eye, and Picard & Sisko would have had to think about a minute or so before making the same decision.

I'm taping it too. I just wished they could have gone a little faster in the first hour. Please, just give us some explosions. When the explosions did come I was pleasantly surprised. The quality was just right for the type of movie it was. While I was surprised to see a female Starbuck, I quickly got used to her. Apollo should be less of a wush. (Actually when I think of Apollo, I think of Apollo Creed. That sure would be an improvement.

Oh MAN! THAT brought back memories!

I liked the way the camera seemed to "Look" for the ship, missing a couple of times, then when the ship is found, zooming in. I can't tell ya how many times I've done that in my space-combat simulation games. It also gave me a feeling like I was looking through my telescope. Weird.

Too many supporters of this program are getting off on the wrong track, most of the people who refuse to watch this are doing so, not because a woman is a starship pilot, but because the "Main Characters" genders were changed to be PC. Remember that lil ole thing the Dims ram down our throat everyday? If you enjoyed the show, then more power to you, but a lot of us refuse to follow the "PC is good" road.

Ah, Voyager, the Pinnacle of PC'dness, I watched a grand total of 5 minutes of the first episode, realized it and she were garbage and have never watched another since. The least they could have done was make Janeway a Klingon female Captain, now that would have been watchable.

So what? I love the original Star Trek as much as anyone, but if someone were to remake the classic show using new actors to play the orignal characters (something I’ve been wishing for) I’d watch with interest. And if it sucked? Oh well, it’s just a TV show.

Fans of the first Galactica who automatically hate this show are being juvenile. They should give the new version a chance and judge it on its own merits. If in their opinion it sucks, fine, they can watch the classic show on tape.

I'm reading the second of the new two-book Star Trek series set on the IKS Gorkon ("To explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations....and conquor them for the greater glory of the Klingon Empire!)

This is what the most recent ST series should have been. PC? Nope. You disobey a direct order, and the captain kills you and puts someone else there who can do the job...

Will have to look into that series, I read a few of the others and nothing really got my attention, except for the ones Shatner wrote. Would be nice to read a good ST novel again.

I caught an old one and the storyline was positive with regards to a missile shiled. there were the Russians and the US and they were at war, and the Russians fired first, the BG was there to put up a "laser shiled" to prevent the missiles from landing down. It was pretty amazing to see.

You still are not getting the point. And to be honest maybe I am not clarifying it. The point is that the lead characters were replaced because the producers/writers/financiers wanted to be PC. It was not about who was best for the job it was all about PC. There are no "What If's" here, the point is they used females in the spots that males were originally used because of PC. No more no less. All one has to do is search the Internet to find this out.

Remember the "Sum of all fears"?, the written version has Arab Terrorists as the enemy, the movie version had Skin heads, the people in charge said they did it so as not to trample on peoples 9/11 feelings, but we all know better.

The original Galactica was three separate entities, the two and a half hour pilot movie, "Saga of a Star World" (which in the east was botched up in it's original 1978 airing by Jimmy Carter with Sadat and Begin signing their peace accord), the 24 episode "original series" of BG (which technically ran the last portion of the 77-78 season and the first half of the 78-79 season on ABC), and the incredibly dreadful (and incessantly forgetable) "Galactica 1980", which showed the refugees finding Earth. If you think the original series was bad, you hadn't seen how low things could sink until you saw this piece of drek.

Don't forget about the theatrical release version of the pilot movie (presented in Sensurround).
