This is a thread for readers and writers of poetry. You are welcome to join in this quiet room, but please respect a few rules that will assure that this thread is easy to read, loads quickly, and maintains the confidence of the poets and readers.
1. Only original poetry, please. All poems are the property of the posting poet. Please do not copy or reproduce in another area.
2. Shhhh! Please keep chat or comments to a minimum.
3. No huge graphics, blinking smiley faces, etc. Just words, please. Let your words paint the image! (Plus, it's easier for dial-up friends to browse.)

fair sharing
is the mark
of compelled caring
from those who dodge
and shelter earnings
and p**s away all
I have to give
as if my money
was for their burning.
So mr. Kerry
rich as far as eyes can see
I want to know why
you pay less tax than me?

Capital Gains
is the name of the pain
in my purse and the hitch
in my get along
which is worse....
All the happened
was a gift
that now has
seen a shift
from my purse
to some fat cats
to spend without
my consent
every last cent
of course the
pot holes in the town
could drown a cat
worse by far
absolutely ruin ones car
the city council has no idea
where the moneys coming
from to fix those holes
in the roads 'cause
most of those dopes
ride bikes in lanes
built with my dollars
just the same
it all is a terrible shame
as I don't have a car
nor a bike
shanks mare I use
when I take a hike!!!

Poets serve the people well
when doubling their entendre
disguising a good, "Go to Hell"
for the democratic genre
Wryly noting ironies
a poet's work is never done
jabbing at cruel tyrannies
in words scarce known by some
So if you seek to prove what's true
or need a bon mot, quick riposte,
a poet's muse is their for you
With free advice for twice the cost!

you guys are all too funny! should be illegal to laugh today.
writing's a good simile
for tax forms and insanity
we twist and turn and lose our forms
but keep it going night and morn.
Of tax forms I have had enough
and where the metaphor fails
I wish I could just fill them in
with stuff that I made up.
My brain is taxed and overtaxed
and thoughts I should be lending
to adding up and taking down
I'm using for my own spending.
Long. Live. Free. Enterprise. Later

democracy
is a cool
cruel
tyrant
too attuned
to the me
mine
more
demands
of wolves
and lambs
voting on
dinner

Sprinkler
make mist and seek rainbows as a solution
to the failure of necessary moisture.
What blooms in sandy loam draws a colour from the arch,
and lets the leaf catch a lens from its dripping cup.
And there burns a memory upon its skin
that tastes honeyed light in concentrated pain.
Rain upon the earth and sweet sorrow to know
thirst that finds relief as I remember you again.

message
the birds lift
from the lawn
that is greening
into the blue
haze waiting
to become
a rain,
the movement
of each thing
measured
at the speed
of forever
from this moment
that began with
"oh."

you doubt
the nights
we shared
when the moon
was central
integral
to our spatial
geometry
and quiet
orbiting
our conversation

the interlude

and never
expected
you'd take me

Boa Joga
Just for kicks,
she smiles a smokey half smile
exhaling without guilt
looking up and contemplating
the uncomplaining constellations
without rancour or regret.
The one touch almost goal
fought thru low kicks
and danced upon a turf
with focus skill and sweat,
lofted with english and guile,
to put one on the board.
But still amused and pained
that the bored reported no score
and thinking it a shame
some don't understand
nil-nil is really a lovely outcome
cause its such a beautiful game.

sitting
for some time
tireless
tieless
shoeless
slumped in pillows
of solitude
he considered
her silence
and felt shame

she hung
his portrait
on a peg
of endearment
uncertain
it would outlast
a hardwood frame
or an unnamed
desire

account
for the chords
in our song
or the melody
we seem
to sing
or our rhythm

The history of every civilization is written in the flutter accumulation of paper disregarded and resting in its gutters.

is it wrong
to anticipate
a happy ending
or remember
a magic beginning
while the meanwhile
is so memorable?

of ambiguity
i don't
regret
today's
requiem
for
tomorrow
