TVs were also said to be recording, scanning local area networks, logging data, and recording audio while in standby.
In a statement to Tom's Hardware, TV manufacturer LG has strongly denied recent claims that its smart TVs constantly log and upload data, record audio while in standby, while confirming they scan local area networks for other devices, a feature common in smart TVs and media devices. The statement follows an investigation published online by Gamers Nexus, which claims LG is operating "216,000,000" spy TVs.
Earlier this week, Gamers Nexus published a video on YouTube claiming that LG smart TVs have several security and privacy concerns. The two-hour video claims, among other things, that LG's smart TVs constantly log and upload user data, even when offline or in standby mode. The TVs were also purported to be found scanning Wi-Fi networks, recording audio logs, and sampling inputs for audio and video to identify what users were watching.

Man, I’m sure glad my phone does none of that.
Its needs to be illegal for anything product to spy on its users, like cars for example.
Isn’t it illegal in some states to record conversations without explicit consent?
All I know is we have one LG tv in our theater room and I have to update it every single freaking time I turn it on even though it is set for automatic updates. We have Samsung tvs that have NEVER required for us to do an update and/or wait 5 min until it updates. It is ridiculous and I can’t wait to get rid of it.
NEVER AGAIN will I purchase an LG.
This is the direction things are moving in though, including cars.
California is one state but, like using “Alexa” you give consent in their EULA and I’m sure LG does the same thing....
The home screen on my Samsung is jam-packed with stupid app suggestions and trashy shows that you can’t get rid of. I have tried and tried.
My Vizio tv tells me it loves me and will never record me.
Another story is their TVs connect to your smartphones and record your pics, videos and internet history............
Yes, sounds like grounds for a class action lawsuit.
The first law firm that does is going to be rich.
Like the guy that sued the tobacco companies
You’ll have to pry my LG OLED TV out of my cold, dead, hands.
In other news, I got a letter from LG. Said one of their researchers had died of boredom after listening in on our household conversations.
They added a P.S. asking that my wife stop exclaiming ‘how cute!’ after every commercial that featured a cat or a Labrador puppy. I told them it was a lost cause.
So, beside the red dot, I put a piece of painter’s tape over that part just in case the camera is there.
LOL
LG is done in the US unless they can prove it is all a lie.
The cameras are not being used what we are being told about. The state and federal gov’t are using this and digital money and the ability to shut down your bank account. Cars with tracking and the requirement that car makers add the electronics to remote shutdown your car. The data centers are going to be used to track us.
