What does it say when an organization has to call an all-hands meeting to define the word "woman"? Especially when the organization literally has that word in its title?
And what does it say about the organization when it fails to do so?
The Women's National Basketball Association held a league-wide meeting yesterday to address the issue of eligibility restrictions. Its charter makes clear that only "women" can compete in the league, a term which, up until a hot second ago, everyone understood perfectly. And after everyone cogitated for the entire day on what the word "women" means, the league came up with exactly ... bupkis.
Well, not entirely bupkis. They did manage to come up with a statement blaming everyone else for their utter incoherence on their own rule and core identity:

Yes, there are variations in human chromosomes. But if the person has one or more Ys, they are male. If it's all Xs, the person is female. You really need to make a herculean effort to make it more complicated than that.
Clearly -- CLEARLY -- the WNBA has some players with Y chromosomes, and the WNBA intends to keep those players. And this is why they cannot manage to define what a "woman" is. The nature of their problem is quite transparent.
And I suspect that they will have a difficult time keeping retired NBA players out of the WNBA. Because the WNBA wants people with Y chromosomes. Maybe they don't want those guys, but they do want some guys.

Maybe in the short run. People will buy tickets or tune in to see a tranny compete with biological women when it's a new thing. Some women will gang up on him, others will just try to avoid him. Some night even show support.

When I was imagining the future I was thinking in terms of flying cars. What I got was earnest discussions on what a woman is. It wasn’t worth the wait.
How about this? If you were born with a vagina, you can play in the womenโs league. If you were born with a penis, no matter how small, then you canโt. You MUST have a vagina in order to play. If you ever had a penis, you canโt. It should be that simple.
