Democrat Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (FL) was indicted by a federal grand jury for stealing $5 million in FEMA funds.
According to the Justice Department, Rep. Cherfilus-McCormick and her brother Edwin Cherfilus allegedly stole $5 million in FEMA funds and funneled it through different accounts to pay for the defendant’s 2021 congressional campaign.
Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick is facing up to 53 years in prison if convicted.
“Using disaster relief funds for self-enrichment is a particularly selfish, cynical crime,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi.
“No one is above the law, least of all powerful people who rob taxpayers for personal gain. We will follow the facts in this case and deliver justice.”
Per the DOJ:
A federal grand jury in Miami has returned an indictment charging Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick and several co-defendants with stealing federal disaster funds, laundering the proceeds, and using the money to support her 2021 congressional campaign.
According to the indictment, Cherfilus-McCormick, 46, and her brother Edwin Cherfilus, 51, both of Miramar, worked through their family health-care company on a FEMA-funded COVID-19 vaccination staffing contract in 2021. In July 2021, the company received an overpayment of $5 million in FEMA funds.
The indictment alleges that the defendants conspired to steal that $5 million and routed it through multiple accounts to disguise its source. Prosecutors allege that a substantial portion of the misappropriated funds was used as candidate contributions to Cherfilus-McCormick’s 2021 congressional campaign and for the personal benefit of the defendants.
The indictment further alleges that Cherfilus-McCormick and Nadege Leblanc, 46, of Miramar, arranged additional contributions using straw donors, funneling other monies from the FEMA-funded Covid-19 contract to friends and relatives who then donated to the campaign as if using their own money.
The indictment also charges Cherfilus-McCormick and her 2021 tax preparer David K. Spencer, 41, of Davie, with conspiring to file a false federal tax return. According to the indictment, they falsely claimed political spending and other personal expenses as business deductions and inflated charitable contributions in order to reduce her tax obligations.
Edwin Cherfilus faces up to 35 years, Leblanc up to 10 years, and Spencer up to 33 years, the DOJ said.

p

I had never heard of her so I read her Wikipedia page. She appears to be as crooked as a dog’s hind legs and has been for a while.
In fairness, the last elections WERE a disaster for Democrats...
Uhhh...same kind of thing happened in California and atleast two people were arrested at their homes on a Saturday recently for some $10M theft of money that was slated for homeless and drug programs. I’m so waiting to see if Newscum got a kickback from that.
George Santos was expelled once his indictments were handed down.
Is there even a microscopic chance this broad will receive the same punishment?
Obvious case of institutional racism (sarc).
She’s a woman and black.
How long before we hear it?
Less than one day, my bet.
For your perusal.
She doesn’t have to worry. Nothing will be done.

Sounds like there could be a whole lot of other co-conspirators to be indicted.
We need an invasion by Danes and Finns.

Or maybe just elect Finnish and Danish people into office. LOL
On a serious note:
We’re a little bit better than Mexico at the most senior levels of government. And that’s not a joke.
Where we excell is that in the middle and lower ranks where every key stroke, voice call, email, text, is recorded. The cop carries a camera, his car has a camera, the radio comms are recorded .. Their financial records get screened, they may need to take drug and polygraph test...
The corruption with us isn’t at the lower and mid levels. These people are in fear of the job if they didn’t get mandatory vaccinated, attend some idiotic diversity training...
It’s at the top levels! That’s also where you have some of the biggest leaks of classified information, to include Comey (self confessed BTW). He was leaking derogatory information to the press regarding Trump.
Borax O’Bama product.
Entitled ruiner of peaceful coexistence.
Are they still using the “systemic” racism term?
Obama took this nation backward regards race.
Ask an older black cop if his job is easier today, if the public sees him the same way as before Obama?
Look at the incomes of blacks and the widening income disparity under Obama. Look at the poverty level of blacks under Obama.
Things got WORSE for black Americans: https://www.census.gov/content/dam/Census/library/stories/2023/09/black-poverty-rate/figure-1-black-poverty-rate.jpg
But, he said Trevon could have been his own son, and he gave some people Obama phones, expanded food stamps... And that sort of crap gets some people all excited, to include every white liberal/progressive.
Obama was a disaster of a President. If the guy weren’t “special” he’d be booed off stage, mocked in the movies and by comedians... He even might get asked a real question in an interview!
Broward County. Why am I not surprised.
Broward County. Why am I not surprised.
but but but I thought it was impossible to get a grand jury in a blue city to indict!!?? Isnt that the reason all you freepers said is the reason why no one has been indicted for fraud in DC!!??
I’m confused!... /s...
Oh. I see. She was entitled to these funds.
