Heather Cox Richardson, a center-left historian with the biggest following out of any individual on Substack, spread an appalling lie about Charlie Kirk’s assassin in a post published Sunday.
Richardson has over 2.6 million subscribers to her Substack, a newsletter presumably read by scores of center-left, ‘normie’ liberals. She is a history professor at Boston College, has interviewed former President Joe Biden, and is planning to interview with The Bulwark. By no means is she a fringe figure, nor is she, at least on the surface, a radical; if anything, she is someone who would be welcomed on a show like “Morning Joe.” Yet, on Sunday, Richardson spread the baseless claim that Kirk’s suspected assassin, Tyler Robinson, is somehow conservative and that he disliked Kirk because he was not right-wing enough.
“In fact, the alleged shooter was not someone on the left. The alleged killer, Tyler Robinson, is a young white man from a Republican, gun enthusiast family, who appears to have embraced the far right, disliking Kirk for being insufficiently radical,” Richardson falsely claimed.
“Rather than grappling with reality,” she went on to say, “right-wing figures are using Kirk’s murder to prop up their fictional world. Briefly, they claimed Robinson had been ‘radicalized’ in college. Then, when it turned out he had spent only a single semester at a liberal arts college before going to trade school, MAGA pivoted to attack those who allegedly had celebrated Kirk’s death on social media.”
Disturbingly, a new YouGov poll shows that a substantial portion of Americans believe that Robinson is affiliated with the Republican Party, though Utah Gov. Spencer Cox and federal officials have confirmed he was influenced by leftist ideology. Even one of the bullets recovered by authorities read, “Hey Fascist! Catch!”
24% percent of Americans believe Charlie Kirk’s shooter, Tyler Robinson, was a Republican, compared to 21% who think he was a Democrat, according to a new YouGov poll.
This comes after a concerted media effort across Facebook, Reddit, and X, amplified by Bill Maher and outlets… pic.twitter.com/1WaJtmpHGg

The poll found that 24% of adults incorrectly think Robinson is not liberal, while 21% of respondents identified him as a Democrat. Fifteen percent of respondents were unsure of either label, and 40% remained uncertain about his political leanings.
Further complicating perceptions, Robinson’s family had noted an increase in his political activism and hostility in recent years. He also lived with Lance Twiggs, his trans-identifying boyfriend, who “despises conservatives and Christians,” according to a family member who spoke with Fox News.
Richardson makes no mention of these details in her story, which is alarming, considering her reach and audience size. If she were an anonymous left-winger spewing conspiracies on Reddit, that would be one thing. But she is the single most popular individual writing on Substack, yet has a crucial piece of information about the killer’s background completely flipped on its head.
Nope she’s fishing
Since Substack seems to be a refugee outpost for washed-up supposed journalists and other such ilk, all I can say about this is…Who is this person & why should I care that she is the most-followed person on that outlet? Pulling an occasional commentary gig on Morning Schmoe is not an enhancement to her CV, IMO.
This is just running the fog machine. All part of establishing the BS no clear motive narrative. They even sent out a Israel did it story. I watched Greta Van S ask Bibi twice if it was true. They are desperate to obscure that it was a leftist tranny op.
And she is why it is no wonder so many young people on the Left are messed up when it comes to history as well as messed up about the Leftist beliefs they hold (they were indoctrinated into) and the origins of those beliefs.
With college professors like her who needs foreign adversaries, she is destructive enough to domestic tranquility.
LIAR, LIAR.
...a center-left historian...Center-left, moderately conservative, middle-of-the-road.
In my experience, unless someone specifically identifies as a conservative or traditional liberal, they're leftists.
This is not 'views', and this woman should not be taken seriously.
It is a malignant growth on nations that if not treated will destroy foundations leading to implosion.
Center-left?
Wow, what a star! That and $10 will get you a small latte at Starbucks...
There are three political groupings: center-left, moderate and far right. /rofl
Amazing how there are no extreme liberals in existance.
TRYING TO “FLIP THE SCRIPT”.
WILL NOT WORK
Academics should have to spend a year writing for a major American corporation, where every word your clients are paying you to prepare for publication will be reviewed by teams of lawyers, accountants and principal executives, under deadline pressure and the threat you will never work for them again if you mess up. They would learn very quickly to research every point in advance of submitting their manuscript to their higher-ups.
One of the worst aspects of social media is the ability of persons to publish without the mediating influence of editors, not just managing editors with oversight of the direction of the ideas, but even just the copy editors who made sure the grammar is correct (the good ones also often acted as fact checkers or etiquette advisors before some words hit print).
Now, the only mediator between a fool and his unwise opinionating is Spell Check, which too is often wrong.
😃😄🤣🤣🤣
“Heather” was most likely deliberately confusing “her” followers.
I note that people who are doing wrong really dislike being told they are wrong.
All too true.
