VIDEO: My Portugal Trip: Jeronimos Monastery is YUUUUUUUGE!!!

VIDEO

I wasn't at all prepared for how incredibly YUUUUUUGE the Jeronimos Monastery in Lisbon would be. At least two full city blocks in length. So big that a single photo can't capture all of it. Even using my cell phone camera video to show you a panoramic hview of it fell short. The good news is that if you don't have the patience to wait several hours on line, the view from the outside is more impressive than the view on the inside where the building is divided into segments which permit only a smaller view. Therefore the BEST view is on the outside where you don't have to wait on line to see it.

The wait was so looong that I took a restroom break while my wife held my place on line. It took me about a half hour to FINALLY find what I was searching for but it cost me a Euro. Oh, and the floor was all wet. In the big park across from the monastery, NOT ONE restroom. Perhaps an updated Peace Corps project should build a few FREE restrooms in Lisbon. The tourists would certainly appreciate it and a sign saying "Gift From the American People" would definitely bring good will towards the USA.

A bit off topic, but thatโ€™s one thing that really annoys me about visiting Hawaii.
Itโ€™s almost impossible to find public restrooms while touring the islands.

Never got an explanation from the locals that really made any sense. Most commonly told it was because junkies used the rest rooms to shoot up and too often died there.

Visiting Spain & Portugal has long been on my bucket list. I hope I live long enough to check it off!

I finally learned that many restaurants in Portugal HIDE their restrooms at the top of the stairs or at the bottom in the basements. In fact when we were at the train station near Porto in the snack room, I told me wife that there is sure to be a bathroom at the top of the nearby steep stairs despite NO signs indicating it. So up the stairs I went and I was right!

We are visiting Spain next year but Portugal was like a wonderful dream. Incredible food, great wine (also beer), and the Portuguese people were great. I still have fond flashback memories of it. Reviewing these videos I made in Portugal helps me relive many pleasant experiences there.

If you make it to Portugal, go to a regular grocery store and look at the selection of sardine cans.

Funny that you should mention that.
Long been a practice of mine when traveling to foreign countries. I like to check out the local supermarkets or grocery stores just to experience the different kinds of food and food packaging in other cultures.
Always amazing.

Looks like a Vegas casino in that the lobby is on the right and my room is all thecway down the hallway to the left. And no bellman around.

I love the Vhino Verde.

We had plenty of that and Port Wine too. Especially the Tawny Port.

If you’re in Lisbon for one day I would recommend the Bus Tour. You can get off wherever you want in Lisbon and then go back on the same company bus again and check out other spots. 28 Euros was the cost and you can use the pass all day.

Perfect. My GF was there about 3 years ago. She rented the car!!!!! She said the driving was crazy with roads going in crazy directions and other hilarious outcomes. I’ll bus or walk!

Yup! And we visited Palacio Pena. I will be discussing that visit in an upcoming video highlighting "The Stations of the Tush" as I struggled up the STEEP hill to get to that palace.

I walked the STEEEEEEP Hill to Palacio Pena. It was so tiring that every few yards, whenever I saw a bench, I had to sit down and rest. Thus the Stations of the Tush.
