If you like all the Science NASA has done since 1961, then wave it all goodby. NASA budget cut to the lowest since 1961 - before there was a manned space program. No more Rovers, probes, [ even 99942 Apophis probes cut, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/99942_Apophis ]. There are no private entities that can or will pick up the slack. Cuts to Hubble and to Webb will leave them orbiting junk.
Coupled with the possible collapse of SpaceX from 47's vengeance feud with Musk, the US will no longer have a space program - civilian or military.
These twin disasters in the making will catapult China into the world leader in space. Youth interested in space exploration will flock to China. Others will go to the UK, Europe, India & Japan.
“You’ll be happy no doubt.”
I’m going to overlook your possible intent on that one and just say that if we applied our science to things other than traveling to the stars, we might be able to solve problems we have right here, right now. And like I said in another post, the technology the US developed out of NASA was so we could go to other planets, not because of it, because we wanted to. And if you would take the time to reflect on what is happening in the US at the moment you would see that we are using funds and the efforts of the current administration to get this country a lot more independent by bringing our needs back to American made. Take the time to look up how much and how many countries are committing funds and factories moving into the US over the last six months. Look to you like we are expanding in China?

“Cut ‘em all until we’re out of debt.”
Our government is not capable of multi tasking.

Get NASA out from under the White House control and managed by Space Force.
NASA is an agency under the executive but other than being guided by the national goals set out in presidential policy, I dont think you could say they are micromanaged by the White House.
and managed by Space Force.
Well, two things there. First NASA is intentionally not a military branch. They are chartered to develop new tech and capabilities that include dual use tech. But I dont think most people want all space to be militarized. Second, Space Force is under the White House too. So a move like you describe is just moving deck chairs.
EXACTLY HOW MANY ROCKET BOOSTERS DID NASA DUMP INTO THE OCEANS???
HOW IS THAT NOT POLLUTION???
WHEN MUSK CAN COME ALONG & “WELCOME ROCKET BOOSTERS BACK HOME INTO THE ARMS OF A “CATCHER”-—HE MADE A FOOL OF ALL OF NASA, IMO.
ONE SPACE X BOOSTER THAT WENT OFF A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO WAS ON IT’S 19TH USAGE.
CAN NASA DO ANYTHING CLOSE TO THAT?
FUNNY HOW FAST ELON’S EFFORTS ARE FORGOTTEN
Gutting NASA will be a huge boost for space X, NASA couldn’t even get our people home from the space station they deserve to be gutted!! They don’t STRIVE for excellence NOTHING in government strives for excellence!!!
Get NASA out from under the White House control and managed by Space Force.

Had you listened to the video, you would know that is exactly what happened in a round about way - by sacrificing science - all of it. Forget the US being the prime source for space science - for get Hubble, forget Webb, forget Martian rovers, and some hundreds of science projects which cost millions, if not billions, to create - all gone. Forget if the asteroid 99942 Apophis will slam into the earth, because what you don’t know will come as a complete surprise. Maybe the Chinese will be kind enough to tell us. Yey will tells all about the solar system, the galaxy, and so on. If they choose.
And if you would take the time to reflect on what is happening in the US
—
If you would take the time to reflect on exactly what NASA does - not the internet bad mouthing, you’d know that the cancellation of all of these projects will make science in the US dependent of whatever the Chinese or the Russians allow us.
There will be no US military in space; there will be an exodus of young people to China and Russia where the future of space exploration lies now, thanks to the NASA hater running the OMB.
Science in the US will be, for all intents and purposes, dead.
Does NASA really need to have historians on the payroll? There are plenty of clerks and other paper pushers who can archive NASA’s materials.
—
The last time some random archivist archived NASA’s materials, they threw out rooms full of data, samples, and original photos of the Apollo program. Losing one third of NASA’ work force means engineers, and others that make NASA tic - not random clerks - will be laid off - in fact the lay offs have already begun.
Are you privy to NASA’s inner workings or are you just getting your pound of flesh?
Believe it or not, I really don’t care. I also worked in the federal govt for 30 years, there’s is plenty of waste.
—
The NASA cuts are random. They are NOT about cutting waste. They are about destroying NASA and the US space science programs.
NASA is another agency that can’t possibly tighten its bell, needs massive funding forever, dump trucks full of flaming grant money in perpetual eternal funding or we are all going to die.
—
Well as an insider for NASA, your comments is very much on the mark. Next time there is a ground breaking innovation, it will come from China, which is fine by you, apparently.
When NASA turned it’s back on real science to push DEI and Climate Change propaganda, it ended it usefullness
—
That was 0bama and Biden who managed to preserve NASA’s science programs - there is nothing about the cuts that are aimed at climate change or DEI. They will still be there. The cuts are to NASA’ science programs, not politics.
Space X’s recent launch failures are the most concerning.
—
Be only concerned about Starship which is under going tests aimed at finding what fails - its stress testing. Or test to failure - its not NASA’s ‘no launches until everything is perfect’ program. Failures are to be expected.
But none of that has anything to do with Falcons or Falcon Heavy launches which make up some 94% of all of the world’s rocket launches.
You’ll just love it when young people have to learn Chinese to get jobs in the sciences.
“I would believe in NASA again (and they did good work in the days up to Apollo) if there were accountability.”
—
Too late, the BBB puts NASA on the scrap heap, along withe American dominance in the space sciences since 1961.
Waste generated by congress and the appointment of political hacks to run NASA.
You don’t seem to understand - NASA is scrapped in the BBB. There is no breaking out divisions - its all gone. The people that make NASA science work are being fired, laid off permanently, along with the loss of the knowledge base created in the past 65 years.
You cannot scrap something created over decades and expect some thing new to pop up and replace it. Every thing that went before is lost. You’d have to recreate everything for untold billions of dollars spent over years, over decades - which would leave China and Russia in the driver’s seat.
. Maybe if NASA had tried to even remotely run itself as a “for profit” business like SpaceX... they wouldn’t be paying $1500 for a hammer and $50k for a toilet seat.
—
You are mixing up the DOD with NASA
Besides satellites and such, it’s not important to everyday life ... the cool photos from the space telescopes do not and will never do anything useful to us besides provide some esoteric information and cool posters for the wall of science classrooms.
—
Who do you imagine designs them?
NASA is the world leader in space science or don’t you understand that? How do you know so much about astrophysics that you deem it all worthless? What would you say when APROPHIS slams into the Earth, but no one knew except the Chinese and they kept mum?
Private enterprise is a far better way to address space needs.
—
Right now, there is no private company nor motivation for any to do space science.
