Because people lie. If a store buys non organic apples and calls them organic then they fetch a higher price. So, organic farmers want truth in advertising

My understanding of the situation is that there are more regulations on organic products because of the possibility of fraud and substitution of the organic product with "tainted" product. Truth in advertising, for example.

What is the intent of all those chemicals, you ask? To increase the usable yield per acre. The chemicals reduce damage from insects, fungus, and probably birds. Also, damage and rot in shipment. Organic apples have a higher price because of the small yield per acre.

I grow corn, wheat, soybeans and grain sorghum here in KS. I use no-till farming practices. Trust me, I hate spraying chemical herbicide and pesticide, but sometimes it’s a necessity if I want to raise a crop and survive in this profession for another year.
