Karmelo Anthony, the teenager charged in the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf, will be tried as an adult in Texas.
The incident took place last month during a championship track meet at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas.
According to police, Anthony stabbed Metcalf following a dispute about where he was sitting.
The case is being handled by the Collin County District Attorney’s Office, just north of Dallas.
Anthony has been charged with first-degree murder and will face trial as an adult. This is because Texas allows minors aged 16 or 17 to be tried as adults for certain crimes.
If convicted, Anthony could face life in prison with the possibility of parole after 40 years. However, he will not be eligible for the death penalty.
“The Supreme Court has said not only can you not seek the death penalty against someone who committed a crime when they’re 17, you can’t even get them life without parole,” said Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis.

[If the roles were reversed, it would have been George Floyd 2.0 with wall to wall media coverage and of course riots, looting and carnage. Jasmine Crockett would have lead an African ceremonial dance in the Rotunda.]
How about life with the possibility of parole after 85 years?
And that would be correct.
In earlier days after interviewing witnesses/trial, he would have been found guilty and hung within a month. Or less.
What he did to that kid was horrific!.
Just great. He will probably do 10 years, then be released in his late 20s with the accumulated knowledge of a generation of career criminals, only to terrorize or murder someone else because he will not have learned to control the impulses of his hindbrain.
They obviously have some brutal witness statements, describing the event and then regarding the kid choking on his own blood and bleeding out in his brothers arms.
I’m sure the family has been careful to keep the gofundme contributions separate from Karmelo’s assets, so they’ll enjoy the money and there won’t be anyway for a subsequent civil suit to recover that. it’s sick to think about what some people are thinking when they give money to this guy’s defense. Or, maybe I’m wrong, perhaps they really do just care about the defendant’s right to an effective defense.
This little POS is going to find out how prison showers work rather quick.
Scum. Make vigilantism great again.
He needs to face the death penalty.
Better yet, karmelo should serve the rest of his life in Gitmo with ZERO chance for parole effective immediately.
I’m sure they’ve gotten legal advice on how to proceed. At $600 an hour, or more.
So what exactly is capital murder? To be charged with capital murder in Texas, it must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant intentionally or knowingly caused the death of another who was acting under lawful duty, or that the victim was under the age of 10.
It will be murder or manslaughter. He'll get 10 years do to his age.
He’s a minor, sue the parents. And the school.
If they get the conviction, he and his family will run their mouth’s to the point that someone permanently shuts them up.
Appropriate charges, now let’s see a solid conviction and long sentence of incarceration. Let justice be done, and let all the facts be broadcast, so all the “Justice for ‘Melo!” morons out there will be shown as the cretins they are.
“If convicted, Anthony could face life in prison with the possibility of parole after 40 years.”
That’s highly doubtful. The race card has suffered a lot in the past year or so but still holds some sway. I’d almost bet that the little murderous thug gets home confinement for 2 years and 500 hours “community service.”
RE: But Won’t Face Death Penalty.
The death penalty is reserved for innocent victims of the criminals.
I’m cynical, but right.
17 criminals executed in the US since 2020.
As of January 1, 2024, there were 2,244 individuals on death row in the United States.
262,083,034 adults in the US population in 2025.
Only if the parents would have done just one thing . Charge them.
