This is exactly what Trump was waiting for.

Bureaucrats are risk-averse—they avoid action until they’re forced. But businesses are action-oriented when their bottom line is either being squeezed or threatened.

Now tariffs are doing what they were designed to do: apply pressure.

Trump knew there’d be a lag. First, the tariffs had to be taken seriously by corporate management. Then the companies would start leaning on the bureaucrats–who, true to form, would resist doing anything until corporate threats made action compulsory.

You don’t want American patients fearing for their drugs (and lives) running wild in the streets or overwhelming the telephones lines to Congress.

Also, insurance companies expect to pay ~$X billion in 2025 for drugs.

Increasing what insurance companies have to pay for drugs by even 10% will send their lobbyists to Congress.

What needs to be done is to roughly equalize drug pricing among industrial countries.

Bear in mind Europe needs industry too. They get lots of goodies from Asia too.

We’re not out to hurt anybody. We just need adjustments to ensure our long-term economic future.

"Trump is on the cusp of announcing a big change in tariffs against foreign pharmaceutical companies in an effort to get the manufacturing of medicines brought back to the USA."

Yup. Everything he does is for the advancement of American prosperity and strength and world leadership. This is not the same man as before.

I would guess the majority of Pharmaceuticals are still manufactured here in the United States.

Europe is insane with regulation and taxes, who would want to do the actual manufacturing of drugs or anything there.

When they outsourced the cheap trinkets, we didn’t mind, but then they moved critical infrastructure and medicine.

When it went to Europe, people didn’t mind as much back then, but now many of our medicines are coming from India, etc. Gross!
