James Carville Says ‘Urbanist’ Dems ‘Ought To Apologize’ To Rural America ‘For Being So Godd*amn Stupid’

Democratic strategist James Carville during a Thursday podcast urged “urbanist” Democrats to “apologize” to rural Americans for disrespecting them.

President Donald Trump’s November victory over former Vice President Kamala Harris was bolstered by increased support from rural voters. In response to a listener question on “Politics War Room” about whether Democrats should begin to “campaign hard in rural areas,” Carville said they should have been doing so all along.

“Well, I think it was always the time for Democrats to campaign hard in rural areas. I don’t know how the party ever got away from that,” Carville said. “Some of its more urbanist members and commentators lived in a folly of a world that we could exist and win elections by just concentrating on large urban areas that are even not even that strategically located.”

The Democratic strategist then recommended a Wednesday New York Times opinion piece by Michelle Cottle about Democratic Colorado Rep. Jason Crow, who argued that many rural voters feel Democrats “don’t respect them.” Crow also believes Democrats must work on improving their grasp of Americans’ lifestyles in order to win elections.

“I think Jason Crowe is the kind of prototype of what the modern Democratic Party should embrace … this should give us, if we play this very smartly, it should give us an opportunity to literally reintroduce ourselves to rural America,” Carville said. “Because for large swaths of rural America, they feel like the Democratic Party doesn’t see them, doesn’t talk to them or does not prioritize them. And, you know, this gives us a chance for them to take another look at the Democratic Party.”

“The stupidity of we got to be the most progressive, self-righteous, moralistic people in the world and, you know, people that live in rural America are just, you know, fat, lazy and stupid, which is decidedly not true,” he added. “But that’s the way that some of the urbanist elements of our party have tried to come across. And it’s stupid, and they ought to apologize to the rural for being so goddamn stupid.”

Democrats are facing record-low popularity, according to polls conducted by CNN/SSRS and NBC News that were published on Sunday. Meanwhile, Trump’s approval rating matches its highest point across both of his terms at 47%, according to the NBC News poll.

A coalition of national Democratic committees in March launched a town hall tour with Americans in Republican-held districts across the nation in an effort to win over voters.

The Rats control almost all of the most populous counties (about 25) and those 25 try to tell the other 3600 how to live.

He holds in his head the simplistic and fake leftist meme of a divide between educated urban sophisticates and their dumb country cousin

When its actually a divide of connected government and financial elites - and everyone else.

An obvious and glaring reason to repeal the 17th amendment.

These the same Tesla-torchin’ democrats he speaks of? The same ones that can’t figure out the difference between a man and a woman? Those the ones you talking about, Jimmy?

Yeah, I’m not holding my breath for an apology from them.

Wow! Carville sure is scrambling to take the narrative away from a Republican party that has “imploded.”

Yet another confirmation of a failed Carville hypothesis. Maybe now he’ll take his trash can and crawl into a deep hole...

Naaah! There’s still somebody trolling a five-dollar bill within his field of vision.

“ I don’t know how the party ever got away from that,”

I know.

About a decade or more ago Rush Limbaugh was critiquing a NYT op-ed that asserted that Democrats’ new strategy was to abandon blue collar workers in favor of urban hipsters, the financial elite and the ultra poor.

How can James be so befuddled?

There is a lot of overlap between those, imho.

My issue with Carville, and I suspect I'm not far off, is that he is coming from the Clintonesque way of 'appearing authentic', i.e., how do we figure out a way to sucker the rubes.

Considering what people in rural America know about the Democrats already and what they do, it’s more than likely that if they went there to try and campaign, they would get run out of town on a rail. Possibly, tarred and feathered.

Carville said. “Because for large swaths of rural America, they feel like the Democratic Party doesn’t see them, doesn’t talk to them or does not prioritize them. And, you know, this gives us a chance for them to take another look at the Democratic Party.”

Note: 'see', 'talk to', or 'prioritize.'

How about 'listen to'.

When someone says they are sorry, the proper response is:

WHAT ARE YOU SORRY FOR?

Is it worldly sorrow.

Or it is true repentance and change of heart?

Was it mainly Democrats getting paychecks from US Aid?

The reason I am asking is that I am retired living in a rural area. Before DOGE acted, I would get 10 to 12 scam calls to my landline a day. That’s right, each and every day! All went to my answering machine. Since DOGE shut down US Aid, I am down to 2 or 3 scam calls A WEEK! So besides scamming our taxpayer dollars, it seems much of that tax money funded scamming retired Americans out of their savings. No amount of apologies will ever make up for that.

not to mention not understanding where food comes from. we grow different crops every year and share with the neighbors...except the ones who insult us for being conservatives. we figure that they can drive the 25 miles to the fresh market and pay market prices.

Democrats want to eliminate the EC because those of us in fly over states shouldn’t count. AOC said similar.

It’s not where they are or they are not campaigning. It’s what they stand for.
