Twenty years ago I got a high paying job at a financial firm, did some consulting, and my wife started working.

When I did my taxes I realized we alone were paying for one low-level GSA employee.

I thought the gov could at least send a limo every morning to take me to work.

I would if it went directly to the debt only.

makes for a great headline to shut up the libs but i don’t think its an effective plan

You are correct. It's a band-aid for what ails America. yes, all tax reduction is good and helps the working classes and poor.

But doesn't reduce the power of government and leftist social-engineering. It doesn't address the root cause of printed, fiat money and how it flows to those most connected to government and Wall Street. It will probably only enhances class envy and social divide. Unless US Govt income is radically changed (based on duties?) then it only raises the imbalance between those who pay and those who do not

Romans in Rome didn't pay tax, and indeed had extensive public welfare. It did not stop the increasing wealth inequality, debasement of money, or increasing centralization of government and ultimate tyranny.

So $150,000/year is right at the 10% mark of the US population. Actually 9.5%. So the Dems basically get what they have always said they wanted - taxing the top 10%...not sure how they argue against that...

I make right in the range of $150,000 annually.

If its a matter of working hard the last month of the year and getting over the $150,000 mark, then having to pay taxes, or taking it easy and staying below that amount and not paying taxes, what do you think millions such as myself will choose to do?

I’ll end up taking more home by making less.

You do not understand how marginal tax rates work. My my the ignorance about income taxes shown here is unbelievable.

Agree. Of the various ideas for replacing personal income tax, I lean towards flax tax rate for all. Extremely simple, no complex rules, no need for tax software or a professional to pay, no games, no BS, no exemptions other than possibly social security for retirees collecting based on what they put into the Ponzi scheme. Everyone pays, everyone has skin in the game.

Might have the side benefit of making people realize and think about where their hard earned money is going.

“The tariff is better.”

I’m thinking tariffs, payroll, sales taxes, taxes on interest and capital gains — only taxes collected or that can be reported by institutions. That way, individuals don’t have to do anything.

Question: most of my income is from the sale of long-term investments in my retirement account. Is that $150K of gross income, or $150K of adjusted income? If the latter, then does that mean that long-term assets of under $300K profit sold during the year would clear the bar?

Ok, I this is how it works, for example let's say the tax rate for < $150K is 0%. The rate for > 150K is 25%. So the marginal tax rate for the brackets above $150K is 25%.

Let's look at two taxpayers, one makes $150,000K exactly and the other makes $150,001 in the tax year. The first taxpayer pays no taxes. Taxpayer two's taxable income is $150,001 - $150,000 = $1.00.

The amount of taxes owed by taxpayer two is .25 x $1.00 or 25 cents.

The Dems loved inflation in the 70s because it forced people into higher tax brackets. I recall my father staring in disbelief at his paycheck after a big raise and seeing how big a chunk of the raise went in taxes.

After Obama took office in Jan 2009, I suddenly found both of my contracts canceled. I needed to find another contract. I did. In San Diego. I left my family at home and traveled to San Diego. I had to rent a bedroom in a private home for somewhere to sleep. Travel day was on "Father's Day" in 2009.

As an Idaho resident, I was still paying Idaho state income tax through early 2010. I had a good annual review and a raise in March 2010. I enjoyed ONE paycheck with the raise before the company shifted to recording the zip code where the work was performed to determine how to tax income. The change in state income tax rates erased all of my raise and a bit more. Adding to the fun, I was sent to Omaha to do some support work and surprise! I had Nebraska income tax assessed. Tax preparation in 2011 was now federal, Idaho, California and Nebraska. It cost me more for the Nebraska state add-on to TurboTax than the refund of the taxes paid to them. State income taxes paid to CA and ID were nearly even.

I've worked from my home office since Sept 2014 with only one travel event in Sept 2017, so Idaho state tax 100% since then. A cut-off at $150,000 might just be the incentive I need to retire before crossing that threshold.

It’s the young 75K & renting that gets the windfall here.

At 68 and full time employed with both home titles in hand, a $150,000 cutoff would be very nice. I have no debt. The 401k is funded for longer than I expect to live. The rental income covers property taxes for both houses. I would have only property taxes and state income taxes with that proposed cutoff at $150,000. It would be an incentive to retire.

Remember, a tax is merely a confiscation of your labor. You work (labor) you pay a tax on your labor. Labor is measured in time. Ergo, a tax confiscates a portion of your life. Anyway… Stop all the nifty tax plan gizmos.

Consumption confiscation contribution of 10%. A 10% consumption contribution to the federal government on all purchases. The contribution would be handled by the seller. The buyer does NOTHING.

Thank you for referencing that article Red Badger.

"TRUMP WANTS NO TAXES FOR ANYONE MAKING LESS THAN $150,000 "

I presume that Trump's conditional "no taxes" is a stepping stone for getting rid of personal taxes, then hopeful making no taxes permanent by leading the states to repeal 16th Amendment (direct axes).

He Did It: Trump Calls for Ending the Federal Income Tax! (1:27.25)

If we raise taxes on the rich maybe they will stop voting Democrat. If you lower taxes to none for the rest of us then they will [probably start voting Democrat.
